Nintendo finally gave Animal Crossing fans what they wanted when it released the next entry in the fantastic village simulation series. Now here we are a few years later, still basking in the aftermath of one of Nintendo’s most successful launches. A Nintendo Switch isn’t cheap, though. Especially if all you’re interested in is Animal Crossing.
But fortunately for PC players, there are plenty of games on PC that replicate what Animal Crossing does best. If you’re looking for a little balm for an AC-less year (decade, or lifetime), look no further; we’ve listed the best alternatives on our beloved platform below.

Fighting game streamer and player Majin Obama lights up Shibuya Crossing in billboard ads
Twitch streamer, content creator, and Guilty Gear Strive celestial-ranked gatekeeper Majin Obama has recently started lighting up the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world: Shibuya Crossing. Earnt as part of a series of Twitch promotional campaigns in Japan, Mr Obama was able to net the prize of having their stream and face plastered around bustling Tokyo.
A long time fighting game player and former English teacher, Majin Obama has gradually been building an audience as one of the communities’ most charismatic creators. Alongside their streaming work, they’ve created videos on a variety of topical topics, including the recent Street Fighter 6 closed beta, the “official FGC certification exam” and a guide on how to get Twitch rich following the earnings leak late last year.
Reaching out to him via Twitter DMs, Majin Obama expressed how he felt “proud but also lucky”, the shining screens in Shibuya affirming the fortune and work that’s gone into their career up until this point. “I suppose I have come a long way in more ways than one since I started streaming, but I feel lucky to have grown a strong community along with it.”
Animal Crossing Meets Stardew Valley In Fae Farm, A New Cozy Sim For Switch
Much like perfectly fluffed pillows, hot tea, and soft sweaters with too-long sleeves, there is something almost magical about cozy games. The developers at Phoenix Labs recognized this mystical phenomenon–and the extraordinary healing powers these games possess–and thus began work on Fae Farm, an intimate-yet-grand farm sim that they call “a love letter to farming and life sim games.”
Announced during September 13’s Nintendo Direct, Fae Farm is a vibrant-looking Switch exclusive that combines dungeoneering, exploration, magic, combat, foraging, mining, farming, fishing, and curating a cute n’ cozy home into an adorable-looking multiplayer experience. Built with cooperative play in mind, the game allows up to four players to drop in and out of the game seamlessly as they team up to turn an old rundown farm into a proper home. While this story might sound familiar to all you Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley fans out there, Fae Farms celebrates these hallmarks while also delving even deeper into elements such as combat and exploration, allowing players to don fairy wings and venture throughout the land of Azoria rather than solely stick around their homestead.
Ahead of the Direct, I spoke with Katie De Sousa, the creative director of Fae Farm, as well as the game’s product lead, Isaac Epp, and asked them a few questions about Phoenix Labs’ upcoming game. From gushing about their desire for a Ocarina of Time-inspired farm sim and revealing how many hours they have put into Animal Crossing, to outlining the importance of inclusivity in Fae Farm and explaining their patented “Cozy System,” De Sousa and Epp had a lot to say about the Spring 2023 release.
Disney Dreamlight Valley blends Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing
With the success of games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, ‘life simulators’ are a dime a dozen these days, especially ones with farming elements. Few life games have the appeal of such well known and beloved characters as Disney Dreamlight Valley however, giving it a bit of an edge right from the get-go. It’s clear that this is geared towards children just as much as adults, so don’t expect the romancing shenanigans of Stardew, but Dreamlight Valley certainly has something for everyone.
There’s no beating around the bush when it comes to just how Disney Dreamlight Valley is – Merlin shows up right away and enlists your help as the magical saviour of the titular town, before introducing you to Scrooge McDuck, Goofy, and the big fella himself, Mickey Mouse. Four of the biggest Disney names are your fellow villagers from day one, and it’s these folks who set your first few tasks, whether it’s searching the meadow for basil and oregano so Goofy can teach you how to cook, or learning how to enter other worlds to save Merlin’s friends.
