‘GLIMMER EFFECT’ ENTITIES Encountered on Rural New York State Road
An Albany, New York resident confronts two different ‘glimmer effect’ entities while driving on a road near his home. Both instances left the witness baffled. Are these ‘cloaked’ beings?
I recently received the following account:
“Hi Lon, my boyfriend had two very strange sightings. They occurred on the same road about 1/4 mile from each other. We live in upstate New York. One yesterday, (Oct. 5th ) he was driving his truck and saw ahead about 15’ on the side of the road a 42” high, 5-6‘ long grayish white thing with massive teeth, on all fours. It reminded him of the Arkansas Razorback logo. The strangest part is that it had a full waterfall look, kind of like the ‘Predator’ movie. It turned and came at the truck and his first reaction was to slam on the breaks. It went through the passenger side as if it struck it. Didn’t feel any impact and it disappeared.
The other happened about 6 weeks ago about 1/4 mile away on the same road. This was upright on two legs, human form but again waterfall effect. It was skinny, 6 to 7‘ tall. It turned and ran up the road faster than his truck and disappeared.
Both had what he described as having this waterfall, blurred look to them.
He was quite shaken after seeing them.” RM
I was able to contact the witness ‘M’ by telephone:
The witness stated that he was driving on Stanton Rd, a few miles south of Albany, NY, and very near his home. This occurred in late August 2022. He observed a tall gray form exit the foliage to his right. The form was human-like, bipedal, and about 6-7 feet in height. He also noticed that it had a ‘glimmer’ effect, making it difficult to distinguish detail. As he watched the being it suddenly turned and ran away from him along the road and at a greater speed than what he was driving.
On October 5, 2022, on the same road at about 1/4 mile away, he observed another being that he again described as having a ‘glimmer’ effect. He stated that it appeared to have water constantly falling on it, saying that it looked like a waterfall was over the top of it. He described it as looking like a large wild hog in form. The form suddenly charged his pickup truck from the right as he anticipated that it was going to collide with the passenger front quarter. He braced for impact but nothing occurred. The witness was left stunned as he tried to turn to his left to see if the being had appeared on the other side. It had also disappeared.
NOTE: It is unusual to have similar entities appear in the same general area, though it has been reported. Lon

Ravenbound Mixes Open-World Action with Roguelike Punishment to Satisfying Effect
In the sea of roguelites at our fingertips today, it’s pretty easy to get lost among the procedural tides. Luckily, Ravenbound seems to have found a unique and ambitious take on the genre with an open-world action-adventure that’s filled with clashing blades, incredibly nasty bosses, and, of course, birds – because if I can’t turn into a bird and back into a human at-will, what even is the point? The massive map filled with optional random encounters to tackle and loot to claim is a gimmick that helped break up some of the more familiar roguelite elements, like repeatedly confronting bosses and steadily unlocking upgrades after each attempt. After several hours running around the massive, Scandinavian fantasy-inspired world and getting myself killed with my unrelenting curiosity, I’m definitely interested in seeing more.
If you’re into roguelites, most of the notable elements are present and accounted for. I spent plenty of time rolling new characters, engaging in various upgrade systems to improve my stats in the short-term and long-term, and getting beaten down by enemies that were clearly beyond my current power level. But what sets it apart are the absolutely massive open-world hubs I explored as I made my way through the campaign. It’s a fresh twist that made it all feel unlike anything I’ve played before. If you’ve played any of the open-world games for which developer Avalanche is known, like Just Cause or Mad Max, then you might have a pretty good idea of how Ravenbound works as well: I was primarily roaming around an open-world fighting things and improving my character while causing as much mayhem as possible.
But beyond that, the developer throws out the usual formula in favor of design elements that supports its roguelite ambitions. Instead of completing quests and progressing through the story linearly, every chance encounter and discovery fueled my ultimate goal of defeating the absolutely nasty world boss that waited for me at the end of it all. To give you an idea, after conquering three mandatory combat encounters in the first area, I gained access to the area’s boss. Now, I could have decided to go straight from there to tackle the big bad, or I could continue to explore and improve my character further at the risk of getting in over my head and getting maimed before I ever got my shot at the boss. That game of risk/reward ended up being incredibly entertaining, and synergized well with the roguelite formula that had me retracing my steps and taking that gamble again and again. And it certainly helped that the open-world areas are beautiful, the dangerous enemies and creatures I encountered were compelling (and sometimes horrifying), and combat, though sometimes a little wonky and clearly in an unfinished state, was fast-paced and challenging enough to keep me engaged after numerous runs.
Ravenbound also tries some interesting stuff with the loot system, which is a card-based format that had me building a hand of cards that could be used to add certain bonuses and abilities to my character to modify how I played. One such card generated an additional health potion for me to consume after each combat encounter, while another let me turn into my bird form instantly, allowing for a quick escape for times where I got greedy and found myself in some serious trouble – I, uh, used that one a lot.
I only saw a small slice of Ravenbound’s massive hub worlds, but it’s already unlike anything I’ve seen before and could end up being a refreshing new take on an addictive formula I already know and love. I’ll certainly be watching this one closely as it develops.
A data-sharing agreement between the US and UK is now in effect
As of today, a data-sharing pact between the US and the UK is in effect, five years after it was first floated. The two sides claim that the Data Access Agreement, which was authorized by the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data (CLOUD) Act in the US, will help law enforcement to combat serious crimes in both countries. The Department of Justice called the initiative the first of its kind, adding that it would enable investigators “to gain better access to vital data” to fight serious crimes in a manner that’s “consistent with privacy and civil liberties standards.”
Under the agreement, authorities in one country can request data from ISPs in the other country, as long as it’s related to preventing, detecting, investigating and prosecuting serious crimes including terrorism, transnational organized crime and child exploitation. US officials can’t submit data requests targeting people in the UK and vice-versa — presumably the requests can either be used to assist domestic investigations or investigations into foreign nationals. Authorities also need to adhere to certain requirements, limitations and conditions when they access and use data.
The UK Home Office’s Investigatory Powers Unit will oversee the Data Access Agreement in the UK, while the DOJ’s Office of International Affairs (OIA) will handle matters in the US. The OIA has put together a CLOUD team that will review and certify orders on behalf of federal, state, local and territorial authorities. It will directly submit orders to ISPs in the UK and ensure data is transferred to authorities who requested it.
Privacy advocates have blasted the initiative and the CLOUD Act. In 2018, just after the bill was introduced, the Electronic Frontier Foundation said it “creates a dangerous precedent for other countries who may want to access information stored outside their own borders, including data stored in the United States.” Fight for the Future argued that it would threaten user privacy.
The US is looking to forge pacts with other countries under the CLOUD Act. It signed a deal with Australia last December and entered negotiations with Canada earlier this year.

Rockstar confirm GTA 6 leaks, but say it won’t have any “long-term effect” on development
Rockstar Games have issued a statement following leaks over the weekend of early footage from the next game in the series, GTA 6, saying they suffered a “network intrusion” from an unauthorised third party, and were “extremely disappointed” that the early development footage was made public through the hack. It’s also emerged that the same hacker may have been responsible for a breach of rideshare platform Uber last week. Uber say they’re in contact with both the FBI and the U.S. Department Of Justice over the hacks.
