Exact date £301 cost of living payment will be paid direct to bank accounts within weeks – will you get the cash?
MILLIONS of households will receive £301 in free cash from April, the government has said.
The Department for Work and Pensions has now confirmed the dates when the first instalment of the £900 cost of living payment will be made.
Millions of households will receive a £301 cost of living payment from April 25[/caption]
Millions of households on certain benefits, including Universal Credit, will receive the £301 directly into their bank accounts between April 25 and May 17.
Those eligible for the tax-free payment won’t have to do anything as it will be made automatically.
The full list of benefits that qualify people for the payment is:
- Universal Credit
- Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Working Tax Credit
- Child Tax Credit
- Pension credit
If you were receiving any of the above benefits between January 26 and February 25 this year you will receive the £301 payment.
If you were later found to be entitled to any of the above benefits between January 26 and February 25 you will be eligible for the payment too.
The DWP said those on tax credits only will receive their payment from HMRC after the DWP payments begin.
But the government department did not give a specific date for when these payments will be made.
For those receiving the £301 payment from the DWP, it will show in your bank account as “DWP COLP” along with your National Insurance (NI) number.
For example, if your NI number is JT 83 42 97B your payment will show up as “DWP COLP JT 83 42 97B” on your statement.
The £301 payment is the first out of three that will be made – the remaining two, worth £300 and £299 will be made in autumn and spring 2024 respectively.
The over eight million households in line for the payments will receive £900 in total.
It follows the £650 cost of living payment made to over eight million people in 2022.
Mel Stride, secretary of state for Work and Pensions, said: “These payments will give a financial boost to more than eight million households as we continue to wrap our arms around the most vulnerable, while the best way we can protect people from high costs is to halve inflation by the end of this year.”
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt added: “I know that times are tough, which is why a key focus of the Spring Budget was supporting people with the cost of living and helping people into well-paid work.”
The DWP said low-income pensioners not already receiving pension credit should check their eligibility for the benefit.
Successful backdated pension credit claims made by May 19 will qualify for the £301 cost of living payment.
What other help is coming?
Millions of people with disabilities and pensioners will receive cost of living payments worth up to £300 later this year and into 2024 too.
Over six million people will receive a £150 disability cost of living payment this summer.
You may be entitled to the payment if you receive any of the following benefits:
- Attendance Allowance
- Constant Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance for adults
- Disability Living Allowance for children
- Personal Independence Payment
- Adult Disability Payment (in Scotland)
- Child Disability Payment (in Scotland)
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
- War Pension Mobility Supplement
Millions of pensioners will receive a £150 or £300 cost of living payment from November this year too.
You will be eligible for the payment if you are entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2023/24.
Effectively, the cost of living payment will top up your Winter Fuel Payment.
Eligible households will be sent a letter in October or November telling them how much their total payment is.
In some circumstances, you might be eligible for all three cost of living payments.
That means you will get £1,350 free cash from the government.
Beyond the cost of living payments, extra help is coming via the Household Support Fund, which has been extended until March 31, 2024.
The fund is a central pot of money from government that is shared between local councils in England.
They then decide who to distribute the money to, and how to.
It can come in the form of a voucher, or a direct cash payment into your bank account.
In most cases, the support is offered to those on a low income or certain benefits.
You should check with your local council if you are eligible for any support.
If you don’t know what council area you fall under, you can use the government’s council locator on its website.
Just type “find my local council” into Google and it should be the first link to click.

I’m a gym girl and tried Khloe Kardashian’s exact butt workout – it wasn’t as hard as I expected
A GYM girl tried Khloe Kardashian’s butt workout but said she was surprised after realizing that it wasn’t as hard as she thought.
The Kardashian-Jenner clan is known for their fit physiques, among other things, but one fitness professional tried out Khloe Kardashian’s booty workout and was shocked by how easy it was.
Fitness influencer Sophia Nicole shares with viewers in a TikTok her experience trying Khloe Kardashian’s go-to glute workout.
Known on the platform as @sophianikki, the workout guru typically posts on her social account about celebrity workouts she’s trying, food that “really gets her going” or her love of cycling as an exercise outlet.
With over 100,000 followers on the social platform, the trainer spends a good amount of her time sharing with them her exercise regimen.
In the 30-second video, Nicole demonstrates the five movements Khloe Kardashian swears are key to achieving her amazing body.
The video starts off with Nicole looking flabbergasted into the camera as she exclaims, “Khloe Kardashian has a butt workout online. Let’s review it and do it!”
She quickly moves into the first step in the active routine, which is elevated heel squats.
“I like ’em but honestly you’re gonna target the quads with this,” she states.
The next part of the fitness routine is a workout that many add to their regimen called deadlifts, and the reality star does ten of them.
“Deadlifts. With that hip hinge. Glutes and hammies. It’s giving booty,” Nicole says.
The third part of the fitness routine adds a little bit of cardio to mix it up with some jump roping.
Nicole offers her opinion by saying that she would actually plug the jump rope as a warmup, instead of an actual step in the glute workout.
The fourth addition to the workout lineup is front squats.
“With front loading weight, you’re targeting the front of the body. You’re getting quads,” she claims.
The last part of Kardashian’s butt fitness routine is completed by a single arm snatch.
The fitness guru gave a pretty decent review of the workout routine.
” Okay, overall not so bad. Honestly, I think it’s kind of quad dominant, but I like it,” she states as the video comes to a close.
In addition, Nicole shares that she would add kickbacks, sumo deadlifts, and back squats to the workout.
In the end, the workout seems pretty easy to her, since she and Kardashian both have a healthy diet and live an active lifestyle.
Nicole says she would add a few more workouts to the regimen to finish it off[/caption]
UK weather: Exact time Brits will be hit with 8 INCHES of snow & ice in -10C Arctic blast as major health warning issued
BRITS will today be hit with eight inches of snow and ice as a -10C Arctic blast sweeps across the UK.
A yellow weather warning is in place – and the UK Health Security Agency have also issued a major health alert due to freezing temperatures.
The southwest of England and most of Scotland and Northern Ireland have been placed under a yellow alert for snow and ice.
In Cornwall, forecasters say occasional rain and sleet will turn to snow and ice in heavier outbreaks – particularly over south Cornwall – from midnight until 9am today.
Meanwhile Scots should be prepared to be hit with blizzard conditions until 10am on Wednesday.
The Met Office say frequent, heavy snow showers are likely for much of the area through much of Tuesday, lasting into Wednesday morning.
Forecasters have also said the weather is expected to cause travel chaos throughout.
They said commuters should be prepared for disruption to plans with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.
It comes as the UKHSA has warned that as temperatures plummet, many people could be at risk of serious health conditions.
Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at UKHSA, said: “Cold weather can have a serious impact on health, particularly older people and those with pre-existing health conditions, as it increases the risks of heart attacks, strokes and chest infections.
“During this period, it is important to check in on family, friends and relatives who may be more vulnerable to the cold weather.
“If you have a pre-existing medical condition or are over the age of 65, it is important to try and heat your home to at least 18C if you can.”
It comes after wintry conditions moved in from the Arctic over the weekend, with people in areas such as Hexham, Northumberland, waking up to settled snow on Monday.
Met Office chief meteorologist Jason Kelly added: “Cold, icy and sometimes snowy conditions are in the forecast this week with the UK seeing more of a north-westerly regime, with temperatures well below average for the time of year.
“Wintry showers are likely at points through the week in the north of England.
“Warnings have been issued and ice is likely to be a hazard for much of the week with some tricky travel conditions possible.
“Maximum temperatures will largely only reach the low single figures with temperatures below freezing through most nights this week.”
And senior meteorologist Alex Burkill said there could be “lows of -10C or -11C” overnight on Monday into Tuesday.
On Monday, he said: “It’s fair to say it’s cold today, cold tonight, cold tomorrow and cold through much of the week really.”
He said the weather will become “more changeable” on Friday ahead of “milder” conditions by the weekend.

Plan for three-hour blackouts revealed in gov documents – here’s exact time your home would be affected
A PLAN for three-hour blackouts has been revealed in government documents – and they show the time your home would be affected.
The Electricity Supply Emergency Code (ESEC) gives the PM sweeping powers to introduce rolling blackouts across the UK to conserve electricity.
Blackouts could cause misery for millions across the UK if they take place this winter[/caption]
Blackouts would be introduced in case of an emergency scenario where there is a massive shortage of gas.
Government documents, which were created before the current energy crisis, show how this would play out.
It comes as the National Grid warned that power cuts could become a regular occurrence during cold January and February nights if electricity generators run out of gas.
The gov plans are split into several stages with the first being direct appeals to the public to reduce their power consumption.
The second is slapping restrictions on companies’ electricity usage by requiring them to drop their consumption by a certain per cent.
The final stage, dubbed “rota disconnections”, would be rolling blackouts for homes across the UK.

The documents also break down where and when the blackouts could take place in an emergency scenario using “load blocks”.
Power in Britain is provided by a handful of suppliers who divide their distribution into 18 of these blocks, which work like postcodes.
Each “block” is assigned a letter between A and U, except for the letters F, I and O, which are not used.
You’ll be able to find yours in an electricity bill. If not, get in touch with your electricity provider to find out.
For example, looking at Level 1 on the document (above), if you live in block A, you would have a power cut on Monday 12:30am to 3:30am, Wednesday 3:30pm to 6:30pm and on Sunday 12:30am to 3:30am.

These blackouts will be based on where you live and how power is supplied to your home, which means your neighbours might not experience a blackout while you do.
Households belonging to each “load block” are scattered across the country, so one area isn’t in complete blackout at the same time.
Blackouts could occur every day of the week in eight three-hour slots, with the first starting at 00:30 to 3:30am and ending with 9:30pm to 12.30am, according to the document.
Power cuts will be based on a 18 levels of severity which differ depending on the availability of gas supplies.
The first would see rolling blackouts three to four times a week, either at the start or the end of the week.
Level two would see power cuts occur six times a week and level three will disrupt electricity flows to households for 27 hours a week.
Level nine is the point at which homes face spending more time without power than with while the most feared scenario is a “total shutdown” of power supply indefinitely.
Certain “protected sites” like hospitals, food manufacturers, oil refineries, some ports, financial services, essential water and sewerage installations, major airports and digital and telecommunication services will dodge the worst of it – but not for long.
They may be forced to reduce consumption in the worst of circumstances, while priority is given to the “maintenance of life” and to “minimising the risk of disasters”.
Meanwhile, the BBC has prepared secret scripts for use during blackouts this winter.
The scripts set out how the broadcaster would attempt to reassure the public should there be a “major loss of power”.
Brits would be advised to use car radios or battery-powered receivers to listen to emergency broadcasts on FM and long-wave frequencies usually reserved for Radio 2 and Radio 4, according to a Guardian report.
One draft script, seen by the paper, warns a blackout could last for as long as two days, with hospitals and police put under “extreme pressure”.
Russia has threatened to turn off gas supplies to Europe this winter in retaliation over its support for Ukraine.
Moscow has already been accused of sabotaging the Nord Stream pipelines with “pig” drones packed with explosives, which suffered catastrophic damage earlier this month.
Though the UK does not rely on imported gas from Russia, it will be hit by a supply shortage in Europe, which is where it sources most of its gas and electricity.
A Government spokesperson said: “The UK has a secure and diverse energy system.

“To strengthen this position further, we have put plans in place to secure supply and National Grid, working alongside energy suppliers and Ofgem, will launch a voluntary service to reward users who reduce demand at peak times.’
“But Britons are already preparing for the worst case scenario by stocking-up on portable generators and torches in addition to winter clothing, thermal underwear and candles, according to industry reports.”
