The Sims 4 is releasing its next base game update on March 14, and there’s plenty to be excited about if you’re a Simmer. This free update will introduce an all-new life stage at long last, Infants, but Maxis has revealed that this isn’t all that’ll be included.
Previous free updates to The Sims 4 finally saw players able to choose the sexual orientation and pronouns of their Sims. We also saw incest accidentally added to the game, too, but we won’t dwell on that.
This time around, Maxis is striving to be even more inclusive by introducing further Create A Sim customisation options, including scars, birthmarks, and even caesarean scars. Revealed via a brand-new trailer, which also showcased what infants look like in Create A Sim, we can see that there are various body markings players can choose from.
Google expands Gmail client-side encryption to more users
Google says client-side encryption (CSE) is now generally available for Gmail after it enabled the feature on Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets and Meet last year and in Calendar earlier this month. The company opened a CSE beta for Gmail and Calendar late last year, but now all organizations on a Google Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Plus or Education Standard plan can enable the privacy protection feature. The option isn’t available on personal Workspace plans or Google accounts just yet.
Although Workspace “encrypts data at rest and in transit by using secure-by-design cryptographic libraries,” CSE gives organizations total control over their encryption keys. “Starting today, users can send and receive emails or create meeting events with internal colleagues and external parties, knowing that their sensitive data (including inline images and attachments) has been encrypted before it reaches Google servers,” Google wrote in a blog post.
Workspace admins will need to enable CSE, which is off by default. Once it’s enabled for your organization, you can add CSE to any message in Gmail by clicking the lock icon on the right side of the “To” field and turning on the “Additional encryption” option. The compose panel will turn blue and may read “New encrypted message.” Meanwhile, in Calendar, you can click the shield icon next to an event title to add “additional encryption” to the description, attachments and Google Meet call.
Encrypting the likes of Drive files and Calendar events is certainly welcome, but CSE protections may be most effective in Gmail. Organizations are perhaps more likely to send emails externally than share files or calendar invites with third-parties, after all. In any case, Google says that all essential Workspace apps are now covered by CSE.

Microsoft Azure expands its telco solutions
New smartphones may get most of the headlines at MWC, but at its core, the annual trade show is still a telco event. It’s maybe no surprise then that the large cloud providers, who are all vying for the lucrative telco market, also made a few announcements ahead of the event. AWS jumped ahead of […]

Microsoft expands the Xbox Game Pass family plan to six more countries
Microsoft has expanded the Xbox Game Pass family plan to six more countries. Folks in Chile, Hungary, Israel, New Zealand, South Africa and Sweden can now sign up for a membership that allows up to five friends and family members in the same country to access Game Pass Ultimate features via a single subscription. This is the first expansion of the Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family plan, which Microsoft debuted in Colombia and Ireland last summer.
There are a few things worth keeping in mind if you’re in one of those countries and you’re interested in the plan, which offers access to a library of hundreds of PC, console and cloud games and has other benefits. The primary account holder will be able to convert their existing plan based on the monetary value of the time they have left. A full month of an Ultimate subscription equates to 18 days of Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family access, for instance. People who are invited to join a group can’t convert their remaining Game Pass time, however. Those with an Xbox All Access payment plan can’t join a friends and family group.
Pricing varies by country. A good rule of thumb is that, based on the conversion rates, a regular Game Pass Ultimate subscription costs about three-fifths as much as the family plan. Given the US Game Pass Ultimate pricing, the family plan costs the equivalent of $25 per month. Split that cost between five people, and that’s just $5 per month per person for Game Pass Ultimate access — around the same price as a single full game purchase each per year.
There’s no sign of Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family plan coming to North America, the UK or elsewhere more broadly just yet. However, it’s clear that Microsoft is interested in getting as many people as possible to sign up for Game Pass in one way or another, so it’s likely the plan will expand to more territories down the line.
Uber Rides Now Easier to Track on iPhone’s Lock Screen and Dynamic Island as Live Activities Expands Worldwide
Live Activities is an iOS 16 feature that allows iPhone users to stay on top of real-time events right on the Lock Screen on all iPhones and in the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The feature will make it easier for iPhone users to track the live progress of an Uber ride at a glance without opening the app, including the latest ETA, the trip status, and the vehicle’s description and license plate number.
Apple announced that Uber would support Live Activities back at WWDC 2022, and the feature has been in testing in select countries since late last year. With the latest update to the Uber app, the feature is available around the world.
Live Activities will also be supported by the Uber Eats app for food deliveries “in the coming months,” according to a company spokesperson.
Other popular third-party apps that support Live Activities include Flighty for flight tracking, Citymapper for public transit, ParkMobile for parking, CARROT Weather for weather forecasts, and soon Google Maps for turn-by-turn navigation.
