I’m a gambling expert who won £2.5million at Cheltenham Festival… here is my GOLDEN RULE to bag a big winner
A GAMBLING expert who won £2.5MILLION at Cheltenham has revealed his golden rule.
Richard Brocklebank – who wrote a book about his incredible win – feels the best way to take home a fortune is to “get the value”
Richard Brocklebank said the best way to take home a fortune is to ‘get the value’[/caption]
He urged Brits to place their bets on the day of the races .
Richard, 57, of Hyde, Cheshire, said: “For those punting at the Cheltenham Festival, which starts this coming Tuesday, my golden rule is get the value.
“Back in the day advance ante-post flutters were a fabulous way of banking value, but these days the value ante-post isn’t there at all for the man in the street.
“I’d say now the best value is on the race day itself, with bookmakers of all kinds offering extra places in lots of races and they also very often push the prices out a bit.
“The special offers sometimes are so good that you can have a bet to nothing.
“The ante-post punt is often overtaken by events with horses declared non-runners after standing on a stone, or injuring themselves on the gallops.”
Richard won £1,519,301 on horse From Dawn To Dusk.
And after another race, Cheltenham provided him a £115,00 Scoop6 win that he followed with an £804,000 bonus.
So with nearly £2.5 million bagged thanks to Cheltenham winners the track has special place in his heart.
Richard’s syndicate has always looked for the value and the longshot to help them land the big wins.
The author – who was thrilled when legendary jockey Frankie Dettori penned the foreword for his book – added: “Don’t be afraid to just watch a race – if you cannot see, or perceive any value in the contest, then leave it alone from a punting perspective and just enjoy the spectacle.
“Nothing gets the blood pumping in sport more than a bunch of top-rated thoroughbreds flying the hurdles and fences in the Cotswolds in March – they are the best of the best.”
In his book – titled ‘£3 Million In 3 Weeks: The Squirrel Syndicate’ – the author recalls how aged 21 he had a life-changing tickle for a £2.50 each way six-timer with William Hill on Cheltenham Festival Trials Day.

Pokemon Go embraces the rainbow with the Festival of Colors next week
The Pokemon Go Festival of Colours is returning again this year, along with a couple of Pokemon that will be brand new to the game.
Returning once again as a global event, the Festival of Colors is kicking off next week March 8, 10am, and runs until Tuesday March 14, 8pm, all in local time. The event, which is all about ushering in the colourful season of spring, is introducing two new Pokemon for the first time. Probably the less exciting of the two is Bruxish, a fish Pokemon that is incredibly colourful, if a little garish. More excitingly is the introduction of Mega Medicham, and if you’re lucky, you can apparently catch a shiny version!
In the update post discussing the upcoming event, it’s also noted that you should keep an eye on PokeStops as you walk close to them, as you might spot some celebratory colours. There are of course event bonuses this time round too, with lure models activated during the event lasting for three hours, and friendship levels increasing twice as fast. You should also take a few snapshots every day during the day too – you might just run into a shiny Smeargle.
