Epic slammed with half-a-billion dollar FTC fine in landmark ruling over Fortnite’s failure to protect childrens’ privacy
Fortnite’s update leaves some at odds with weekly grinds
Fortnite’s Chapter 4 kicked off this weekend, with plenty of new cosmetics and shiny features for everyone to ogle over. Namely, an Unreal Engine 5 upgrade arrived, alongside Doom Slayer, Geralt of Rivia, The Incredible Hulk, and… Mr Beast. Fair play, Epic.
So, we can safely say that Fortnite looks even better than it did before with the help of UE5’s Lumen and Nanite. And with Doom Slayer being a battle pass exclusive, there are no doubts in my mind that I’ll be grinding out Victory Royales this season. That said, some changes to the game have left a sour taste in players’ mouths, and understandably so.
One of such changes is to weekly challenges. Previously, players could start a weekly challenge, and would have the entire season to complete it. Weekly quests would also accumulate, so players could play Fortnite at their own pace and still have plenty of quests to work towards.
Fortnite’s latest season adds a new map, dirt bikes and Doomguy
Following an explosive end to the battle royale’s third chapter, Fortnite’s newest season has arrived. Chapter four comes complete with an entirely new island for players to fight over. It features a handful of landmarks that draw on fantasy tropes, including a castle known as The Citadel that’s home to “The Ageless.” There’s also Anvil Square, a picturesque medieval town surrounded by trees at the peak of their autumn colors. On a different part of the island, players will find an abandoned farm ominously named the Frenzy Fields.
Chapter four also introduces new gameplay tweaks, and if there’s a theme to the season, it’s mobility. Dirt bikes called Trail Thrashers allow you to perform tricks and fire your weapons while on the move. Now you can also vault over obstacles by sprinting at them. Additionally, in areas where there’s snow, you can use a pickaxe to create a snowball. You can then jump into the snowball to take your enemies down by rolling over them.
However, the most interesting addition is a feature called Reality Augments. At a few intervals during a game, you’ll get to choose between two random buffs that you can keep until your character dies or you win the match. Light Fingers, one of the 22 Reality Augments available with the start of the new season, allows you to reload weapons that use light ammo faster. Speaking of weapons, there are several new ones to try, including a Shockwave Hammer you can use to launch yourself at your teammates and enemies.
On the technical front, Epic has moved Fortnite to the latest version of the Unreal Engine. On PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, players can look forward to ray-traced reflections on glossy materials and water. Of course, a new season also means a fresh battle pass for players to purchase and complete. The pass includes Doom Slayer, the protagonist of Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal, as well as Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher series. Separately, an Incredible Hulk skin will arrive in the Item Shop “soon.” Chapter four, season one is available to play starting today.
Fortnite’s latest live event was its strangest yet
Fortnite just wrapped up its most recent large-scale live event, and it was a strange one — even by Fortnite standards. The event, dubbed “Fracture,” was meant as a sendoff for Fortnite Chapter 3, and now that it’s over, the game is down ahead of the launch of the next chapter on December 4th, which will introduce not only a new island, but characters like the witcher himself, Geralt of Rivia.
Before things kicked off, players were split into groups, hanging out on tiny floating islands with little to do but watch a countdown displayed on a TV screen. (My trio of players all sat around roasting marshmallows together.) That was followed by a cutscene in which The Herald, a relatively new Fortnite character, led an attack of tornadoes, and…

Fortnite’s Dazzling FNCS Trophy Has Been Revealed
The Fortnite Championship Series (FNCS) kicks off this weekend, and for the lucky pair who walk away as champions in the heated duos tournament, a magnificent trophy awaits them. The first-ever FNCS championship trophy has been revealed by Epic and its jeweler partner, Swarovski, and it’s quite a sight to behold.
Just like Epic takes Fortnite’s dancing bananas and loot pools very seriously, so too does Swarovski give its jewelry the white glove treatment–despite the fact that the behind-the-scenes video below features someone in black gloves. It’s a figure of speech, just go with it. See for yourself how this new Fortnite hardware came to be.
The Fortnite Championship Series will take place in Raleigh, North Carolina, the home of Epic Games, on November 12 and 13. The international and invite-only tournament will be played in teams of two, and you can find the full list of FNCS competitors here on GameSpot. Is your favorite competitive Fortnite player vying for the trophy this weekend?
Fortnite’s Polo Ralph Lauren Crossover Brings Racing Chic To Battle Royale
Fortnite is perhaps best known for its characters that include bipedal bananas, sentient trees, and, of course, Jonesy himself, but Epic’s battle royale and all-around social experiment is adding another fashion label to the game with the Polo Ralph Lauren crossover. Beginning Saturday, November 5, you can find a number of new character skins and other accessories celebrating the iconic racing-inspired clothing line.
Two new characters, Stadium Hero ’92 and Polo Prodigy, will debut as part of the Polo Stadium Collection Set, and each can be completed with available accessories such as gliders, back bling, and more. Here’s everything new coming to the Fortnite Item Shop this weekend:
- Stadium Hero ’92 skin (with three alternate styles)
- Polo Prodigy skin (with one alternate style)
- Racerback back bling
- Stadium Collector pickaxe
- Stadium Drifter glider
- P-Wing Pack back bling
- 1992 Mallet pickaxe
- Victory Colors emote
- Back Into The Arena loading screen
Prices have not yet been revealed, though some lucky few can earn both skins and their related back bling items not just a day early on November 4, but entirely for free, too. To unlock the skins for free, players must qualify in the Polo Stadium Cup, a Zero Build tournament played in solo queues this Friday. It will be accessible via the game’s Competitive menu.
