Resident Evil Village will be free-to-play on Sony’s PSVR2
Resident Evil Village, the latest instalment in the prolific survival horror series from Capcom, will be available to play on Sony’s PSVR2 at launch. The headset, which is set to be more expensive than the PlayStation 5 console itself, will arrive on February 22, 2023.
For those of you who already own a copy of Resident Evil Village, you’ll be able to jump into Castle Dimitrescu in PSVR2 for free on release, with the VR Mode essentially being free DLC. All you need to do is simply update your game, and voilà, you can play the entire campaign in virtual reality.
Tsuyoshi Kanda, producer at Capcom, shared in a PlayStation blog post as to how the PSVR2 will be utilised for Resident Evil Village specifically. “Vivid graphics of the 4K HDR display (2000×2040 per eye) and eye tracking produces a heightened perception of reality,” Kanda shares.
Free-to-play racer Disney Speedtorm has been delayed until 2023

GTA-inspired battle royale Gene Shift Auto is going free-to-play next week
Gene Shift Auto began life as a Geneshift, a topdown, Grand Theft Auto-inspired multiplayer game which dropped into Steam Early Access in 2017. It added a battle royale mode the year after, when we were all drunk on Plunkbat. Now it’s changed name and it’s going free-to-play on November 28th.
Free-to-play shooter Scavengers will close down next month
After launching into early access in April last year, the free-to-play shooter Scavengers is closing down. Its servers will close on December 16th, with publishers Improbable pinning the cause on a “decline in the playerbase.”
Remember V Rising? It’s temporarily going free-to-play, with a free Halloween-themed DLC
V Rising is the vampire survival game from Stunlock Studios that hit Early Access in May this year. Not only did the indie gem surpass 500,000 sales in its first three days, but it eventually reached over a million in just a week.
That said, this initial excitement for the game definitely wore off with time, but there are still thousands of people playing V Rising each day (according to SteamDB). So, while vampire life wasn’t for the few hundred thousand who initially purchased the game, there’s no denying it has a level of vampiric charm that’s got some players hooked.
If you’ve never tried out V Rising for yourself, now is a better time than ever. Just in time for Halloween, V Rising will be going free to play on Steam from October 28 to November 1. The huge open-world RPG allows you to start your own empire, as you avoid the sunlight and hunt for blood, and if you don’t mind a short grind to success, you’ll likely find something to love about V Rising.
