Tottenham vs Man City: Spurs host Haaland and Co without Conte on touchline in crucial clash – stream, TV, odds
TOTTENHAM have been haunted by the ghost of Manchester City for all of… well, two weeks.
Just a fortnight ago, Spurs stormed to a shock 2-0 lead away to Pep Guardiola’s side.
But a remarkable second-half comeback saw City score FOUR times to run out 4-2 winners and leave Antonio Conte stunned.
City can go to just TWO points behind league leaders Arsenal with a win.
Spurs sit fifth, four points behind Newcastle United, but will have played a game more.
So already Conte is approaching ‘must-win’ territory and while even a point against City would feel like a win, the Italian boss knows he can’t afford to watch his side drop too many more points.
Unfortunately for him, he’s likely to miss the game after undergoing surgery to remove his gallbladder earlier this week.

The second-half of the season starts now with the transfer window slamming shut.
Man City brought in midfielder Maximo Perrone from Velez Sarsfield, but it was the departure of Joao Cancelo that was the real shock of their transfer dealings.
Tottenham, on the other hand, only strengthened their squad – bringing in Arnaut Danjuma and Pedro Porro after allowing a spate of squad players to leave.
So with plenty to play for, who will come out on top in North London?
What is their form like?
Tottenham: In a word: Mixed.
Spurs have progressed to the FA Cup fifth round with wins over Portsmouth and Preston.
And they’ve beaten Crystal Palace 4-0 and high-flying Fulham 1-0 since the turn of the year.
But big losses against Man City and Arsenal have hurt them.
Man City: A frustrating start to the 2023 for Guardiola and Co.
The Etihad giants have also reached the fifth round of the FA Cup with wins over Arsenal and Chelsea.
Thumped Wolves and Spurs in the league but also lost to rivals Manchester United 2-1 to heavily dent their title hopes.
What is the team news?
Tottenham: Richarlison, Lucas Moura and Pape Matar Sarr are all in contention for the match following recent injuries.
Pedro Porro could be thrown in at the deep end after his deadline day transfer and may start at right-wing-back.
Man City: Phil Foden and John Stones are doubts following injury.
Otherwise, it’s a fully-fit squad for Guardiola to choose from with Perrone the only new arrival – although he’s unlikely to start.
Star men
Tottenham: Harry Kane. In a match of such magnitude, it simply has to be the England striker.
City are almost unstoppable in attack, so Spurs may have to fight fire with fire.
And what better way to do that than with Kane – the man most-likely to finally break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goals record.
Man City: Erling Haaland. Who else?
While Kane may be heir to Shearer’s throne, if Haaland stays in England long enough, he’s almost certain to go one better and shatter the all-time record.
Guardiola is able to rest Haaland from time to time thanks to Julian Alvarez’s superb form.
But make no mistake, the Norwegian ex-Borussia Dortmund star is the main man – and the one opponents fear most.
What have the managers said?
Antonio Conte recently underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder and may miss the game.
The Italian has not spoken since his shock diagnosis on Wednesday.
But assistant Cristian Stellini said: “We don’t know yet when he is coming back.
“The surgery was good. He’s recovering well at home. We have two days before the game and anything can happen.
“The decision will be made tomorrow. We are ready to do everything and probably the doctor who did the surgery will have to decide for him. We have 48 hours to decide.
“I think nobody here can keep him calm.
“He’s an intelligent man. He knows what happened. The surgery is not the worst but it’s still surgery and he knows he has to be careful.”
Pep Guardiola revealed John Stones is absent for up to a month, but hinted Phil Foden could make the squad.
He also touched on the Kane vs Haaland battle, saying: “We’re extremely happy with Erling, I think Spurs are extremely happy with Kane.
“What an exceptional player Harry is and the quality of his goals. I think Kane proves that titles don’t mean anything. He remains one of the best strikers I’ve seen in my life.
“They’re happy to have him. We’re happy to have a young player like Erling, who will hopefully play for us for many years.”
What are the odds?
- Tottenham – 7/2
- Draw – 31/10
- Man City 3/4

‘He’s the only one who gets close to Cristiano’ – Haaland compared to Man Utd star Ronaldo by Bernardo Silva
BERNARDO SILVA says Manchester City’s ‘Special Ron’ will strike fear into the hearts of the Kop tomorrow afternoon.
The Portuguese international reckons new boy Erling Haaland has the kind of predatory instincts he has only seen before in Cristiano Ronaldo.

And he hopes with the 20-goal Norwegian Terminator on board, the champions have the ‘weapons’ to bury their Anfield hoodoo once and for all.
City have won only once at the home of Liverpool since 2002 –— and that came in February 2021 when the stadium was empty.
But now they have Haaland, 22, who has already scored on Merseyside, back in his days playing for Red Bull Salzburg.
His explosive start to life at City has led Bernardo to compare him to his long-term international team-mate CR7 — who netted his 700th club goal at Everton on Sunday.

The former Monaco man said: “I was speaking with a few friends the other day and I said he is the only player who gets close to Cristiano in terms of knowing where the ball will land inside the box.
“He’s got that smell of knowing where it lands and he’s so quick and strong, which is not easy for the defenders.
“Can he reach the same standards? Well, I’m playing with Erling so I hope so but the standards are so high.
“Cristiano has won five Ballon d’Ors, five Champions Leagues.

“You never know what will happen in the future. Erling’s still very young, still got a lot to do but the mentality is there, so yes.”
Pep Guardiola’s men have the edge over Liverpool in terms of trophies won, leading the Premier League title count 4-1 over the last five years.
But the Reds have enjoyed the better of the head-to-heads.
City have won only three of their last 14 meetings in all competitions — and none of the last four.
Yet Bernardo believes the prospect of facing an in-form Haaland will have their old rivals worried.
He told Arab News: “We have always had good results over the last few years but it’s true that now we have a player up front that is so strong, big.

“And the other teams fear a little bit of that. Personally, I feel if me and the other midfielders and defenders do our jobs properly then we have so much quality up front.
“Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Erling, they can decide the games, they can take care of the rest.
“But we have to do a proper job, control the rhythm of the game and then we know the weapons we have up front.”
Incredibly, City’s win on Merseyside in the Covid-hit 2020-21 season was only their second at Anfield in four decades.
Yet Bernardo says they are making the short journey down the M62 in good heart after an impressive start to the season.
He added: “We know how difficult it is to play at Anfield, with their crowd, but we are going to try because we are feeling good at the moment.
I’m amazed by the way Erling’s such a nice guy
Bernardo Silva
“We have always tried to win there in the past but just couldn’t. We won just one season there, for many different reasons and in different circumstances.
“But the team feels good. Our levels of confidence are very high at the moment.”
Liverpool have been City’s main rivals over the past few seasons but find themselves down in mid-table — and 14 points off the top this morning.
Their hopes of challenging for the title will surely be over if they lose tomorrow but Bernardo says Jurgen Klopp’s men are just as dangerous as ever.
He said: “It doesn’t make any difference how they have started, what their form is like, honestly.
“What they did in the last five years you can’t look at them and think, ‘Oh, they are a bit weak at the moment’. No chance.

Haaland was unsurprisingly named September Player of the Month[/caption]
“They are so strong and it is going to be so difficult for us.”
Having Haaland in their line-up is sure to help though — and Bernardo says it is not just the goals that have impressed his team-mates.
There have been plenty of them already, of course, but the £51.4million striker’s willingness to work like a ‘beast’ for his new club has stood out.
Silva added: “The goals, we knew he could do that.
“But I’m amazed by the way he’s such a nice guy and accepts he is just one more player in the team.

“If you see him running in games, he presses like a beast, like each one of us, that’s top.
“The humility of knowing that it doesn’t matter how good you are or how much better you are. You have to set the example and run more for the team — and he does that.”

Football news LIVE: Erling Haaland ‘on nearly £1MILLION per week’, Hakim Ziyech urged to leave Chelsea, Messi LATEST
MAN CITY sensation Erling Haaland makes almost £1million PER WEEK at the Etihad – and that’s without his hat-trick cash.
According to the Mail, the star striker appears to be paid accordingly by the reigning Premier League champions who are showering him with £865,000 per week.
However, a series of substantial bonuses see his weekly wages turn him into probably the best paid player in the Premier League.
Elsewhere, Dutch legend Marco van Basten has urged Hakim Ziyech to quit Chelsea in January.
Former Ajax winger Ziyech has struggled for game time since his £40million arrival in 2020.
Van Basten said: “It is sad and a shame that someone of his calibre gets to play so seldom. Ziyech is a terrific player.”
And legend Lionel Messi could make a stunning return to Barcelona next July – at 36.
