It’s “almost time” for a Mortal Kombat reboot, teaser and leaks suggest
It’s no news that Mortal Kombat 12 is reportedly arriving during 2023, given that it was accidentally detailed during a Warner Bros. Discovery call to investors a few months back. Alas, it’s now become clear that it might not be Mortal Kombat 12 that we’re specifically in receipt of.
Source, Bilbil-Kun, who has reliably reported on game store leaks in the past, has reported that the new entry in the series will be called Mortal Kombat 1. The game is expected to be a reboot of the series on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, but as ever, you know the drill; these leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt until NetherRealm Studios confirms this itself.
That said, NetherRealm Studios shouldn’t be keeping fans waiting for too long, and its latest teaser (embedded above) certainly point towards a reboot. Captioned “It’s almost time,” Mortal Kombat’s teaser, and the clock counting down that it features, has triggered a lot of speculation.
No more leaks: The Google Pixel Fold is finally, officially real
It’s about time.
After a few years of everyone kinda knowing that a Google foldable was coming thanks to leaks and rumors, it’s actually, finally, officially real. The Google Pixel Fold was shown off at I/O 2023 on Wednesday in all its mini-tablet-shaped glory. The Pixel Fold launches in June for $1800. It comes in two colors: porcelain and obsidian.
Pixel Fold specs
As expected, the Pixel Fold’s easiest point of comparison is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. Rather than go with a clamshell form factor, Google opted for a smaller outer display that unfolds into a larger 7.6-inch display. Like the other devices shown off at I/O, Pixel Fold will be powered by the Tensor G2 chip. Storage options are limited to 256GB and 512GB.
Of course, the Pixel Fold doesn’t just fold for cosmetic reasons. You can multitask apps now, and when you aren’t doing that, it looks like a lot of apps (such as Gmail) will support the larger inside display in various ways. Gmail, for example, will display your inbox on one side and whatever email you’re reading on the other.
One major potential selling point of Pixel Fold is that includes all of Google’s AI features as well as the software magic that makes photos look great. Google’s mobile cameras have been arguably the best in the game for a while now, and now there’s one on a foldable. As a bonus, you can set the Pixel Fold up on a flat surface and turn it into a static camera that can run on a timer.
We still won’t know if the Pixel Fold is any good for a little while, but at least we finally know it’s real.
Pixel Fold preorder details
Pixel Fold is available for pre-order starting today on Google’s website.
Nintendo is so desperate to smite Zelda leaks it DMCAed a legitimate streamer
Nintendo, Ticked by Zelda Leaks, Does a DMCA Run on Switch Emulation Tools
Nintendo’s takedown request (RTF file) notes that the Switch contains “multiple technological protection measures” that allow the Switch to play only “legitimate Nintendo video game files.” Lockpick tools, combined with a modified Switch, let users grab the cryptographic keys from their own Switch and use them on “systems without Nintendo’s Console TPMs” to play “pirated versions of Nintendo’s copyright-protected game software.” GitHub typically allows repositories with DMCA strikes filed against them to remain open while their maintainers argue their case. Still, it was an effective move. Seeing Nintendo’s move on Lockpick, a popular Switch emulator on Android, Skyline, called it quits over the weekend, at least as a public-facing tool you can easily download to your phone. In a Discord post (since removed, along with the Discord itself), developer “Mark” wrote that “the risks associated with a potential legal case are too high for us to ignore, and we cannot continue knowing that we may be in violation of copyright law.”

‘SNL’ Weekend Update covers Pentagon leaks, asks why everyone keeps crying around Trump?
Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update routinely covers the hottest and most pressing news from the past week and last night was no different.
The segment started with the biggest news: the man who leaked national secrets has been identified and arrested. Jake Teixeira of the Massachusetts Air National Guard leaked classified Pentagon documents on social media to impress his friends in a group chat he started named “Thug Shaker Central.”
“Thug Shaker Central is also what Colin calls Atlanta,” host Michael Che jokes. Che continues by saying that President Biden downplayed the leaks because “when you’re over 80, a couple of leaks is nothing to be embarrassed about.”
The segment continues with co-host Colin Jost wondering why every time former President Donald Trump tells stories, someone is always crying.
“It never sounds like excited crying, like when teenagers see BTS,” Jost says. “It sounds more like sacred crying, like when hostages see Jigsaw.”
Other big news Jost and Che satirize include Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ undisclosed ties to conservative billionaire Harlon Crow and a potential 2024 presidential campaign by South Carolina senator Tim Scott.
