Marvel’s vampire hunter is coming to theaters in 2024
Don’t expect Bob Odenkirk to appear in a superhero movie anytime soon. Speaking to The Independent, the Breaking Bad and Lucky Hank actor was asked about the potential for him to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe following his celebrated performance in the action movie Nobody. Odenkirk said he’s not a good match for the superhero movie world.
“I always like to keep things grounded, relatable, and smaller. I don’t think I’m built for that world,” he said (via IndieWire). “I’m built for characters that make you feel like that guy could live next door.”
Odenkirk starred in the 2021 movie Nobody, a film based on his own traumatic experiences of having a gun to his head and the time his home was broken into. Odenkirk did extensive physical stunts in Nobody, and a sequel is now in the works. Odenkirk told The Independent about the sequel, “I care about this more than you could imagine.”
Liv Tyler is reportedly set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming film Captain America: New World Order, reprising her role as scientist Betty Ross from 2008’s the Incredible Hulk. The Hollywood Reporter was first to report.
Tyler’s character Ross is the daughter of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who was previously portrayed by the late William Hurt and will now be played by Harrison Ford in the new film. Tyler’s character has not been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since, but she will now join other actors from the Incredible Hulk who have appeared in other projects. Carl Lumbly will return as the original super-soldier Isaiah Bradley, Danny Ramirez will return as Joaquin Torres, and Tim Blake Nelson will also be returning as Samuel Sterns for Captain America 4.
Anthony Mackie will lead the cast as Sam Wilson, who is taking on the mantle of Captain America for the first time in the film. Shira Haas will also join the cast as a newcomer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film, directed by Julius Onah, is currently shooting in Atlanta, and the script was written by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson. Captain America: New World Order will be the first in the franchise led by Mackie, who is taking the title role over from Chris Evans.
Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso has reportedly exited the company as of March 17, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The publication cited multiple unnamed sources, with reasons for the exit still “unclear.”
Alonso has been with the MCU since its earliest days nearly two full decades ago. The executive joined Marvel in 2006 as chief of visual effects and post production, climbing from co-producer on 2008’s Iron Man to become president in 2021 of physical and post-production, visual effects, and animation production.
As The Hollywood Reporter indicates–which may be anecdotal and unrelated–Alonso’s departure comes on the heels of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s underwhelming performance at the box office and among critics and fans. Rotten Tomatoes reported an approval rating of 47% with an average rating of 5.6/10, based on 379 reviews. The site’s critics consensus reads: “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania mostly lacks the spark of fun that elevated earlier adventures, but Jonathan Majors’ Kang is a thrilling villain poised to alter the course of the MCU.”
