Model, reality star, entrepreneur, and actress Kenya Moore expands her growing filmography with the forthcoming Lifetime movie event ‘Abducted off the Street: The Carlesha Gaither Story.’

Based on a true story, the film chronicles the abduction of a Philadelphia nurse’s aide by a homicidal criminal and reveals how she fought to survive by creating a trail that would ultimately lead to her rescue.

The Next Alien Movie Is Now Officially Titled Romulus

The upcoming Alien film from director Fede Alvarez is now officially titled Alien: Romulus, Deadline reports. While the film has made use of the Romulus subtitle as a working title for a while now, the name is now official, in line with the franchise’s long history of religious and mythological references.

The official name was revealed by Disney CEO Bob Iger, as part of the company’s Q1 earnings call. The film is written and directed by Uruguayan horror filmmaker Fede Alvarez, best known for Don’t Breathe and the 2013 Evil Dead. Alvarez pitched the concept for the film to 20th Century, who proceeded to make the film a top priority for production.

Alien: Romulus takes place between the events of 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens. The blurb for the film states: “Young people from a distant world must face the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Funimation Shuttering But Your Digital Movie Copies Won’t Transfer To Crunchyroll

It’s been two years since the initial announcement that Funimation would be absorbed into rival animation service Crunchyroll.

“When we brought Funimation and Crunchyroll together last year, our top priority was to put fans first,” said Colin Decker, then-CEO of Crunchyroll. “Unifying all of our brands and services under the Crunchyroll brand globally enables us to offer more value than ever before as we combine subs, dubs, simulcasts, library, music, movies, manga–into one subscription.”

Crunchyroll announced today that as part of its unification with Funimation, the Funimation app and website will sunset on April 2, 2024.

Donald Glover reminds Star Wars fans the Lando Calrissian movie is still on and that he has “enough control”

Donald Glover is one of the busiest artists in Hollywood at the moment, yet he’s finding time to work on a Lando Calrissian-led Star Wars movie born from the scrapped Disney+ series announced ages ago.

We learned about the project’s transition last year, and while Disney and Lucasfilm’s most pressing movie plans for the franchise include a Mandalorian & Grogu movie, a Rey-centric sequel to Episode IX, and a ‘Dawn of the Jedi’ type of epic, there are many more theatrical projects floating around. Chances are most of them won’t see the light of day, but it appears that Glover is committed to making the Lando movie sooner or later.

While talking to The Hollywood Reporter about the state of his career and the Mr. & Mrs. Smith Prime Video series he co-stars in alongside Maya Erskine, he was asked about why and how he’s approaching the long-in-the-works Lando spinoff, and his answer wasn’t as simple or timid as you’d expect. “I said yes because I like the characters and my kids love Star Wars,” Glover said, “I feel like I have enough control. And maybe you get painted as a control freak, but it’s like, yeah, control allows for the vision to be singular. And if the vision is singular, people want it more.”

Plex Launches Movie Rental Store

Media platform Plex today announced the launch of a dedicated movie rental store, allowing U.S. Plex users to purchase content directly from Plex rather than from a third-party store like YouTube, Apple TV, or Amazon Video.



Popular movies like Barbie, Aquaman, Mission Impossible, Wonka, Priscilla, and more can be purchased using Plex.

Plex users will have 30 days to start playback after renting a movie, and once playback begins, the movie can be watched multiple times in a 48-hour window.

Along with recent movies to purchase, Plex also offers a large selection of movies that are available to watch for free on demand (with ads), as well as free live television.

Plex movies can be rented through the Plex Web App on iOS devices, but purchases work on ‌Apple TV‌, iOS, the Plex Web App, Fire TV, and supported smart TVs from LG, Samsung, and more. Plex does not support renting movies directly on the iPhone, iPad, or ‌Apple TV‌, presumably to avoid Apple’s cut.

Rentals start at $3.99 for older movies, but popular new releases cost up to $20.99. Wonka, for example, is $20.99, which is actually a dollar more than it costs to rent the movie from Apple’s TV app. There is no option to purchase movies on Plex, and rented movies cannot be downloaded.

Movie rentals are limited to the United States as of now, and Plex has not said whether the renting option will expand to additional countries.
