Pacific Drive is shaping up to be an electric mix of roguelike and driving survival
When Pacific Drive was first announced during one of Sony’s State Of Play streams a couple of months ago, my initial thoughts were, ‘Hey, that spooky first-person driving game has some cool sci-fi vibes about it that makes it look like Control on wheels,’ and, ‘Man, I want to find out more immediately.’ Well, thanks to a recent press presentation, I have found out more about Ironwood Studio’s survival roadtrip game, and it’s a lot more roguelike-y than I was expecting. Here’s everything I learned.
Grim roguelike road trip Darkest Dungeon 2 is getting a 1.0 release on May 8th
Darkest Dungeon 2 has been in early access since 2021, and it’s finally taking the roadtrip to a full 1.0 PC release on May 8th. We originally thought the nail-biting roguelike would see a 1.0 release this month, but developer Red Hook haven’t left us empty-handed. Darkest Dungeon 2 currently has a demo available on Steam and the Epic Games Store until the end of Steam Next Fest on February 13th. Red Hook say the demo will feature the four starting heroes as you take them around one full region and explore either the Sprawl (city) or the Foeter (farms.)
Roguelike RPG Darkest Dungeon 2 Steam release date arrives in May
Time to pack your bags for a road trip to hell. Darkest Dungeon 2, the turn-based RPG game about the psychological tolls that facing unspeakable horrors can have on a group of adventurers, will be leaving early access and launching on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, with its 1.0 release date set for May 8. Starting today, there’s also a free demo of Darkest Dungeon 2 to try out in the Steam Next Fest.

Playing Monster Train dev’s new co-op roguelike with pals is going to be harder than I thought
I’ve played Shiny Shoe’s upcoming roguelike Inkbound once before, and not only is it markedly different to their previous game Monster Train, but it also featured the snappiest turn-based combat I’d seen. With that in mind, I dove into the game’s recent technical test with fellow RPS Treehouse-dwellers Ollie and James to sample the game at a more leisurely pace, and to draw upon their greater strategic expertise. Did the combat hold up? Were they pleased to be dragged into a co-op session with me? Yes… and no. We had fun, but it didn’t come quite as naturally without the guiding hand of the developers showing us the ropes.
Book Of Demons continues its papercraft Diablo tribute with new roguelike deckbuilder
It’s been a hot minute since the papercraft Diablo-like Book Of Demons last stomped through these monster-infested halls, but developer Thing Trunk are back today with news of the next chapter in their dungeon-crawling fantasy series. Hellcard will continue the story of Book Of Demons when it launches into Steam early access on February 16th, but instead of slicing up devil flesh in traditional hack and slash fashion, this time you’ll be building decks of cards to tackle each dungeon layer as a roguelike.

Hitman World Of Assassination is out, combining Hitman 1-3 and adding new roguelike mode
Hitman 3‘s long-awaited Freelancer mode is finally out, letting you play missions from across the trilogy with randomised objectives and other roguelike elements. Hitman 3 is also now called Hitman: World Of Assassination and its multitude of editions, bundles and DLCs have been combined and simplified. As a result, every Hitman 3 owner now has access to all the levels from Hitman 1 and 2, if they didn’t already.
Spooky, excellent roguelike Returnal is coming to PC on Feb 15th
At last! Returnal, the hit bullet-hell roguelike that set PS5 owners hearts’ a flutter back in 2021, is launching on PC on February 15th. It’ll be prettier and ray-tracier too, if this new PC features trailer is to be believed.
I played Returnal last year and can confirm that it is splendid, and also that you will grow to hate the kamikaze squid in the final area with every fibre of your being. Presuming you get that far.
