Town sim meets action adventure in My Time at Sandrock, out this summer
Stranded: Alien Dawn review: a survival sim that nails the crashlanding
As our shuttle hits the ground, the world erupts into smoke, chaos, and confusion. Samantha, one among my ragged band of survivors, breaks down sobbing on the ground and I direct Maki, a veterinarian, to do something about it. She punches Samantha full-on in the face, knocking her unconscious (“Oh, I guess that’s what ‘knock out’ means,” I realize a moment too late). Well, at least I don’t have to worry about her running off into the woods or something. It’s a rough start, but they have no choice but to work together from here on out.
For fans of the survival simulation genre, crashlanding on an alien planet is a familiar premise, but it’s one Stranded: Alien Dawn absolutely smashes. This game has been at the top of my to-be-played list for a while and now that it’s exiting early access for a full release, it’s safe to say that Stranded is the closest thing to my dream human vs nature survival game I’ve seen yet.
Immersive sim Consortium delisted to make way for a remaster, free to owners of the original
EA Sports PGA Tour has strong sim credentials, but is also undeniably a first-gen sports title
It’s in the game. The slogan of EA Sports is one of gaming’s most enduring marketing ticks – though for EA Sports PGA Tour, perhaps something else would be more appropriate. “Game On”, perhaps?
I say that not because of anything that is – excuse the phrase – in the game, but because of the context around the release of EA’s new golf game. The reasoning and decision-making is complicated, but the short version is much simpler: EA stopped making golf games. 2K started making them instead. And now EA is back on the block to take the fight to the upstart, PGA Tour 2K. But this isn’t as simple as a return of the king moment; EA is basically starting from scratch.
That fact is the main caveat in EA Sports PGA Tour, in fact. You can tell this is a first run out – a new franchise, a hard reboot, rather than picking up anywhere near where 2015’s Rory McIlroy PGA Tours left off. That puts some tight constraints on what this title can accomplish – but it’s a huge positive in other areas, too.
PlayWay’s latest sim game appears to be Barbie Horse Adventures
If you recognise the name PlayWay it is because PlayWay publishes most of the [Noun] Simulator games, often but not always involving being a mechanic of some kind. Today, though, I’m excited to tell you that with their next game, developed by PlayWay subsidiary Games Incubator, they’re branching out into the long-neglected magical horsegirl genre with My Horse: Bonded Spirits.
This immersive sim will be set in a gas station that might also be Hell
Judge Lets AT&T Off the Hook for Crypto Investor SIM Swap Attack
One early crypto investor’s hopes to see a major telecom provider pay up for a 2017 crypto heist have been all but dashed. According to unsealed court documents filed last Thursday, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California shared that AT&T wasn’t liable to any damages due to the 2017 SIM swap…
Storybook strategy sim Six Ages 2 treks to PC this summer
Storybook strategy sim Six Ages: Ride Like The Wind was a spiritual successor to 1999’s cult classic King Of Dragon Pass, created by some of that game’s former developers. Six Ages is now receiving its own proper successor later this summer, developer A Sharp and publisher Kitfox have announced. Just like its predecessor, Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out is a blend of tribal management and choose your own adventure drills, all wrapped up in some gorgeous fantasy illustrations.
Failbetter’s gothic dating sim Mask Of The Rose delayed to June
There’ll be all kinds of horrors present in Fallen London’s spin-off, Mask Of The Rose: green-tentacled creatures, underground Londoners, and most frighteningly, love. Sometimes two or more of these horrors intersect, and by that I mean you can romance that tentacled man in this gothic, alternative-history dating sim. Spooky suitors will need to wait a while more, though, as Mask Of The Rose has been delayed to June 8th – previously slated for April.
