As the most-decorated male singer in the 64-year history of the Hot 100, Chris Brown is no stranger to seeing his name tied to Billboard records.
Already the first R&B singer in history to own 100 Hot 100 hits, now the GRAMMY winner has extended his reign into the chart’s topmost quadrants.
Details inside.
Three years after arriving as track on the extended version of his 2019 chart-topping album ‘Indigo,’ Brown’s ‘Under the Influence’ – thanks to renewed interest on streaming and digital download platforms – is found just under the top 40 on the refreshed Hot 100 this week.
Landing at #36, the entry marks his 51st top 40 hit (113th charting single overall). Here are the numbers that powered the positioning.
- Streaming ≈ 10.7 million
- Digital Downloads ≈ 1,800 units
- Radio Airplay ≈ n/a
Among R&B singers, Breezy becomes the first in history to own over 50 top 40 hits on the Hot 100. Among all acts, he enters a 5-way tie with Rihanna, Justin Bieber, JAY-Z, and the ‘Glee’ Cast for ninth-most top 40 hits ever. The quintet of hitmakers follow Drake (158), Lil Wayne (87), Taylor Swift (86), Elvis (81), Kanye West (71), Nicki Minaj (66), Elton John (59), and Eminem (52).
The historic placement comes just days after Chris took to Instagram to thank his devoted fans, affectionately called #TeamBreezy, for their enduring support.
“I REALLY REALLY APPRECIATE and LOVE YALL..❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏽. [‘Under the Influence going to #1 on Apple Music]. This is crazy to me… imagine the songs that were overlooked.. thank you team breezy. GEMS 🙏🏽❤️. Hope you guys are going back and re listening to see what y’all may have missed. 🥰 R&B AINT DEAD..just allow it to blossom,” he said.
