Great news for you character-action fans watching the Sony State of Play tonight, as Stellar Blade (formerly Project Eve) was just shown off via a rad new gameplay and story trailer. The game got much more than just a proper name though, as we now know the title will be coming exclusively to the PS5 in 2023.
The new trailer can be found embedded below, which showcases a lot of excellent high fying, combo-centric melee action like we got only a glimpse off last year in the initial reveal trailer for Project Eve. Now, it looks like that action has only be turned up to 11 in the time away from the spotlight, with sci-fi fighting that has us foaming at the mouth.
In the trailer, we’re introduced to a variety of new friendly characters that come alongside us in a journey across a ruined and largely abbandoned world. It seems like a gigantic disaster botched the place up something serious, leading to a variety of nasty (and frankly, brilliant looking) enemies all over the gaff.
Like a Dragon: Ishin has just been announced at tonight’s Sony State of Play! A remake of a Yakuza spin-off title previously not available in western markets, the shiny new action game will be available on both PS4 and PS5 in February 2023.
The trailer shows a Yakuza-like ancient Japan filled with very familiar looking characters, clashing with that classic Yakuza comabt albeit with swords and flintlock pistols rather than fists, traffic cones and stray bicycle. In terms of story, it’s a classic affair for those familiar with the franchise. Our stern-faced protagonist gets caught up in some devious plot, requirng him to go out and fight-off goons across the land.
The original game — Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin! — was originally released in 2014 on PS3 and PS4. The Yakuza has recieved these every now and again and they’ve always looked like rad and entertaining twists on the franchise. Who can forget the zombie title Yakuza: Dead Souls, which put us in conrol as Majima as he took on hordes of undead with gusto.
Synduality, a new sci-fi third-person shooter from Bandai Namco, was announced at PlayStation’s September 2022 State of Play.
In Synduality you team up with an AI partner, Magus, to “reclaim lost ground for humanity” in the remains of a ruined world where poisonous rain and dangerous creatures run amok. Drifters like the player character are the humans that brave it all in the name of collecting a rare resource called AO Crystals. According to a post on the PlayStation blog, the development team at Bandai Namco Entertainment is looking to explore how humans and AI interact and coexist with this sci-fi adventure.
Players can customize their Mecha’s appearance and weapons over the course of the game. Synduality will also have a PvPvE online mode where players are challenged to clear missions and can potentially thwart one another’s progress.
Synduality is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC in 2023. Tekken 8 was also officially revealed during the State of Play along with many other announcements. Catch them all in IGN’s September 2022 State of Play news roundup.

Ninja Gaiden developer Team Ninja has another intense-looking action game on the horizon–although it’ll be a while before you get to play it. The developer announced the PlayStation 5-exclusive open-world action game Rise of the Ronin with a new trailer that gives a sense of both a cinematic story and some intense, inventive combat.
Team Ninja and publisher Koei Tecmo announced the game with a trailer during Sony’s State of Play event. Though the trailer didn’t give too much in the way of concrete details, it did suggest you’ll spend the game fighting with swords and other traditional samurai weapons, as well as with rifles and other weapons that would be common in the 1860s. One shot also suggested players will ride horses, soar over urban areas with a sort of hang glider, and wield weapons lit with flame. Check out the trailer below.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the game is “historically inspired,” and is set at the end of Japan’s Eido period. Team Ninja calls the game its “most ambitious to date.” The historical setting is a dark one for Japan, with a number of forces influencing the country and a civil war raging.
During Sony’s September State Of Play, Like A Dragon: Ishin–a Yakuza spin-off set in 1860s Kyo, a fictionalized version of Kyoto–was announced for PS4 and PS5. The release date is February 2023.
Like A Dragon: Ishin was originally released in Japan in 2014 under the title Ryu Ga Gotoku Ishin. It never received a global release, and this new Like A Dragon: Ishin is a remake of the original in Unreal Engine 4.
While most Yakuza games have modern-day settings, Like A Dragon: Ishin takes players to the waning era of the samurai. Main character Kazuma Kiryu gets cast as Sakamoto Ryoma, a key historical figure who played an important role in overthrowing the shogunate and bringing the rule of the samurai to a close. Players can expect other familiar faces too, as Goro Majima will also make an appearance in Like a Dragon: Ishin, along with some of Kiryu’s other friends.
During today’s State of Play, Bandai Namco kicked the show off with a first look at Tekken 8, the next installment of the long-running fighting game franchise.
The brief teaser trailer showed Jin Kazama facing off against his father, Kazuya Mishima, on a rainy and rocky cliff. Jin was able to switch to his Devil form on the fly, performing a massive punch after doing so. Massive storms rage behind the fighters during the battle, with tornadoes raging in the sea below.
A PlayStation Blog post by Tekken executive producer Katsuhiro Harada confirms that all visuals seen in the trailer–the “character models, backgrounds, and effects”–are all in-game assets. The scene is taken from the game’s story mode, but the blog says what is seen is similar to what players will experience mid-fight.
