Elon Musk Subpoenas Jack Dorsey In Legal Battle Over $44 Billion Twitter Deal
“Solving for the problem of it being a company however, Elon is the singular solution I trust,” Dorsey tweeted. “I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness.” Dorsey also had a discussion with Musk about social media’s future and open social protocols in late March before Musk made a bid in April to purchase Twitter for $54.20 per share, a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission says. Twitter shareholders are expected to vote on the deal on Sept. 13.

Elon Musk subpoenas Jack Dorsey amid Twitter legal fight
Lawyers representing Elon Musk in his battle with Twitter have subpoenaed former CEO Jack Dorsey. The filing is the latest development as Musk and Twitter prepare for the October trial over Musk’s attempt to bail on his $44 billion deal to buy the company.
It’s not yet clear how Dorsey factors in to Musk’s legal strategy. As noted by the Chancery Daily Twitter account, the subpoena refers to “documents and communications reflecting, referring to, or relating to the impact or effect of false or spam accounts on Twitter’s business operations.” It also references documents related to how Twitter uses mDAU or monetizable daily active users as a “key metric.” Interestingly, it also requests “documents relating to incorporating mDAU into executive or director compensation.”
Dorsey isn’t the only former Twitter executive subpoenaed by Musk. Twitter’s recently ousted product chief Kayvon Beykpour and former head of revenue Bruce Falck have also received subpoenas.
Musk has claimed that Twitter has misled him and the public about the number of bots and fake accounts on the platform. Twitter’s lawyers have argued that Musk has repeatedly broken the terms of his agreement with the company. A five-day trial is scheduled to begin October 17th.
Dorsey previously endorsed Musk’s bid to buy Twitter, saying that “Elon is the singular solution I trust,” and that he was ““getting the company out of an impossible situation.” Dorsey hasn’t publicly weighed in on the ongoing legal battle or Musk’s claims about bots and fake accounts.

This school subject, folder color Twitter debate is perfect internet fodder
The internet loves to debate, argue, and flat-out fight. Twitter’s core function might just be maintaining The Discourse — aka scores of people getting angry at one another about mostly silly things.
Recently a topic arose that might just be the perfect Twitter discussion. At its core it’s nonsensical. There’s no correct answer. There is no way to even win the argument. It’s simply an opportunity to say your thoughts and then disagree with others’ thoughts. It’s a pretty basic tweet. It simply asks which color folder goes with which subject in school. The choices are red, yellow, blue, and green and history, science, English, and math, respectively.
The tweet, first posted last week, set off an unending firestorm of debate and an endless thread of answers.
For what it’s worth my answers and justifications are as follows:
-
History: yellow. The history channel is yellow. It just makes sense.
-
Math: red. Math is harsh and logical and red is a harsh color.
-
Science: green. Plants are green. Grass is green. Science is…kind of about studying the world? I don’t know.
-
English: blue. I don’t know. English just seems blue to me.
There were some people who agreed with me.
There were, of course, lots of people who disagreed. Because of course they did! This is pure nonsense.
It caught on so much that the freaking Today show even got involved.
This folder color thing is an almost too perfect example of the internet works. Sure, it’s very silly — and often the internet is dark, scary, and awful — but it’s instructive nonetheless. It’s a debate for debate’s sake. It is arguing just to argue, with no hope of winning a thing. Nobody will change their mind. It is passing the time. Everyone is right. Everyone is wrong. Everyone it shouting into the void, certain for them it will answer back somehow.
Twitter tests a special tag to highlight phone number-verified accounts
Elon Musk’s bot-baiting aside, Twitter has had many people call for changes to how it identifies accounts and what can be done to call out which ones are more legit than others. Now engineer Jane Manchun Wong has dug up a Twitter label that would put a mark on accounts with a verified phone number. She also noted another test feature showing view counts for tweets, which some users already have access to for their own tweets under the label of “analytics.” However, she said it’s unclear if this would be limited to the author or visible to everyone.
Linking an account to a number is one way to highlight that it was created with more effort than the simplest macro and could be used to filter out which tweets appear the most prominently or…
Twitter can’t stop dunking on Meta’s Horizon Worlds
It has been a rough week for the metaverse, my friends. Meta launched their Horizon Worlds platform in Spain and France and reception was… frigid. That’s mostly thanks to the unimpressive graphics and awkward, lifeless avatars, all of which might be forgiveable if Meta had not spent a significant portion of a reported $10 billion developing them.
I’m no stranger to critiques of Meta, but it gives me very little pleasure to see the metaverse being misunderstood in such a massive way. And that’s not the public’s fault—it’s Meta’s.
Anyway, here are the best tweets dunking on Horizon Worlds.
