The FDA may have unintentionally made ‘Nyquil Chicken’ go viral on TikTok
If you’ve been anywhere near social media, local news, or late-night talk shows in the last few days, you’ve probably heard something about “Nyquil Chicken,” a supposedly viral TikTok “challenge” that’s exactly what it sounds like: cooking chicken in a marinade of cold medicine.
News about the supposed trend is usually accompanied by vomit-inducing photos of raw chicken simmering in dark green syrup. It’s both disgusting and, as the FDA recently reminded the public, just as toxic as it looks. But it turns out Nyquil Chicken was neither new, nor particularly viral, and the FDA’s bizarrely-timed warning may have backfired, making the meme more popular than ever.
First, a bit of history: As reporter Ryan Borderick points out in his newsletter Garbage Day, Nyquil Chicken originated as a joke on 4Chan in 2017. The meme briefly resurfaced in January where it got some traction on TikTok before once again fading away.
Then, last week, the FDA — inexplicably — issued a press release warning about the dangers of cooking chicken in Nyquil. In a notice titled “A Recipe for Danger: Social Media Challenges Involving Medicines,” the FDA refers to it as a “recent” trend. But they cite no recent examples, and it’s unclear why they opted to push out a warning more than eight months after the meme had first appeared on TikTok.
Now, in what we can only hope will be a valuable lesson on unintended consequences, we know that it was likely the FDA’s warning about Nyquil chicken that pushed this “challenge” to new levels of virality, at least on TikTok. TikTok has now confirmed that on September 14th, the day before the FDA notice, there were only five searches for “Nyquil chicken” in the app. But by September 21st, that number skyrocketed “by more than 1,400 times,” according to BuzzFeed News, which first reported the TikTok search data.
TikTok, which has recently taken steps to limit the spread of both dangerous “challenges” and “alarmist warnings” about hoaxes, is now blocking searches for “Nyquil Chicken.” Searches now direct users to resources encouraging users to “stop and take a moment to think” before pursuing a potentially dangerous “challenge.”
As both BuzzFeed and Gizmodo note, there’s little evidence that people are actually cooking chicken in Nyquil, much less actually ingesting it. That’s a good thing because, as the FDA makes very clear, doing so is not only extremely gross, but highly toxic. But the whole thing is yet another example of why we should all be more skeptical of panic-inducing viral “challenges.”
The TikTok viral Dash mini waffle maker has a Halloween version — and the two-pack is only $16
Save 49%: Ring in the near start of spooky season with a two-pack of a Halloween themed Dash Mini Waffle Makers, on sale for only $15.40 at Amazon as of Sept. 19. Down $14.59 from its $30 MSRP, this deal basically gets you a whole waffle maker for free.
You know what’s better than mini waffles made from the TikTok viral Dash Mini Waffle Maker?
Spooky mini waffles made from a spooky Dash Mini Waffle Maker. As if the mere existence of a Halloween version of one of TikTok’s favorite kitchen appliances isn’t enough, you can grab the two-pack Halloween themed waffle maker for just $15.40 at Amazon.
That’s 49% off its $30 list price, and an especially excellent deal when you take into account that the standard Dash waffle maker is $13 for one. Personally, I’d probably prefer to eat skull waffles year-round anyways, but when it means basically getting an additional waffle maker for free, then I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t opt for the Halloween version.
And it’s not just skull or pumpkin-shaped waffles you can make. This waffle maker rose to TikTok fame for its versatility — people have made everything from cheesy garlic bread to breakfast sandwiches and quesadillas in the four-inch appliance.
Sure, it’s definitely not the most luxe kitchen device out there, but it’s cute, it’s convenient, and as of Sept. 19, it’s at a pretty unbeatable sale price.

I tried on the viral Kim Kardashian SKIMS bodycon dress for the first time – the fit was not what I expected at all
THIS fashion TikToker tried on the famous SKIMS bodycon dress and was shocked to see it on her petite, athletic body type.
In a segment on TikTok called: “Is it cute or is it just Kim Kardashian?” Emma Lev tried on the bodycon “it” dress from Kim Kardashian’s multi-million dollar brand.

She was not impressed by the dress saying ‘you can see every nook and cranny’[/caption]
She found the heather grey dress at Nordstrom, but once she got to the changing room, she was dumbfounded.
“Bodycon dresses scare me because I’m small, petite, and like athletic and I just don’t feel like they’re super flattering on me,” Emma said as she put on the dress.
She put her hand over her mouth in shock when she looked at the dress on her body.
Emma did not like how revealing the dress was.

“You can see every nook and cranny, y’all like I’ve eaten today, alot, and I just didn’t feel protected. I didn’t feel secure,” Emma said.
She added: “The fact that you could see my knee bones was pretty frightening.”
Among her many critiques, she thought the dress was too long.
“Why is it so d**m long? Who? No,” she said.

By the end of the video, Emma decided that it only looked cute because Kim Kardashian was wearing it.
“I don’t think I’ve ever put on a more ill-fitting, unflattering dress,” she said.
“You can literally see every dent. Nope. Just Kim Kardashian.”
While this haul was a fail, other TikTokers have tested dupes for SKIMS and were pleasantly surprised by the results.
SNEAKY SKIMS DUPES
One TikToker tried on the ReoRia Women’s Sexy Sleeveless Racer Back Halter Neck Bodysuit Tank Top ($25.99) from Amazon.
This find is a dupe for the Skims Fits Everybody High Neck Bodysuit ($58).
“This genuinely looks exactly like the Skims one,” she exclaimed.
“You could literally get two of these in two different colors for the price of one original Skims,” she concluded.
Another user tried on a dupe from Shein.
She tried on a dupe for the Soft Lounge Long Sleeve Dress ($78).
She described the dupe she found, the SHEIN SXY Solid Bodycon Cami Dress ($13), as having a stretchy cotton material.
She said: “This dress is really really nice. It’s not rib knit, but it still feels very nice on the skin which I really do love. It also does have adjustable straps.
“They’re not as nice as the Skims one but they’re nice. The material feels really nice on the skin.
“This is also one of those that will hug your body, and really like curve you and shape you.”

I’m a medium-sized mom – I tried the viral Skims bodysuit and it does NOT look like Kim Kardashian’s influencers
THIS medium-sized mom had tried the famous SKIMS bodysuit and has not been impressed after it didn’t look like the ads from TikTok influencers.
Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand has become a viral sensation, but a TikToker that goes by @tatianaviz wanted to know if it would look good on a “normal mom.”

She wasn’t impressed saying her jeans still didn’t fit comfortably[/caption]
When she first took the bodysuit out of the packaging she said: “It’s pretty soft.”
Tatiana got the small/medium SKIMS and tried them on with tight jeans in the video.
She was disappointed to find that the ads she was seeing on TikTok, didn’t match what the product actually felt like on a “normal mom” body.
“Is this nicely compacted? Yes,” Tatiana said. “Do [the jeans] still fit? No.”

She added: “Like there’s not spacing in here like how these TikTok influencers are marketing this product.”
Tatiana admitted that “everything does look seamless,” however it was not what she was looking for.
“I fell for it. I fell for a TikTok ad,” she said.
In the caption of her video she wrote: “Kim, you paid the influencers a pretty penny to put on a bigger size jeans im sure.”

Commenters suggested that Tatiana should’ve gotten a smaller size.
One person wrote: “I think you could have gone down a size! If I’m fighting the bodysuit to get on then you’ll get amazing results lmao.”
Another user said: “I think you could of went smaller. I got the S/M and I look bigger than you and it does my jeans a bit looser.”
A mid-sized TikToker had an opposite reaction to the SKIMS.
When she tried the product on she was delighted and said: “Finally I can be confident in tighter fitting clothes, the difference is amazing!”
