Roland Watson takes a hard look at the growing prevalence of skepticism regarding not only the existence of Nessie, but of any cryptid. It seems that a skeptical point of view has become the default, with it being all too easy to dismiss any proof at hand. Given that consideration of evidence requires a good deal more thinking than dismissing the plethora of photographic Nessie evidence, it could be argued that the movement toward skepticism even by believers is the result of mental laziness. We may need to ask ourselves on which side of history we want to be found: the one with cryptids and fantastical creatures like the Loch Ness Monster, or the one where history of things such as Nessie has been erased.
