Two interviews on new looks at very controversial Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Host Jeffrey Mishlove begins by reciting Jacques Vallee’s signal works (eight of which are available from Anomalist Books) then launches into a comprehensive discussion of the case detailed in Vallee’s latest book TRINITY: The Best-Kept Secret, co-authored with Paola Leopizzi Harris. Vallee points out the noteworthy parallels of the alleged 1945 Trinity UFO CEIII with those of Socorro, New Mexico, in 1964 and Valensole, France, in 1965. He also has cogent observations throughout about the negative effect the current UFO respectability exerts upon chances of government transparency, the vetting UFO reports to eliminate IFOs before drawing conclusions, and the story about a scientist who was tasked with analyzing some material that proved basically unidentifiable. Paracaster Gene Steinberg and co-host Tim Swartz offer an interview with James Fox about his newest documentary Moment of Contact. Fox defends the authenticity of this 1996 Varginha, Brazil, case, detailing technical and human-based challenges in the movie’s realization. Fox’ remarks about witness intimidation and apparent government meddling, as well as the impact of direct alien contact itself upon witnesses, provoke comparisons with Vallee’s Trinity narrative.
