2022 is proving itself to be quite the year for Rap icon Snoop Dogg.
As if kicking it off as part of a historic headlining Hip-Hop collective at this year’s Super Bowl wasn’t enough (as we reported here), the 50-year-old unveiled his own cereal – Snoop Loopz – and announced his attachment to multiple TV ventures including hosting duties for NBC’s ‘American Song Contest’ as well as Peacock’s ‘So Dumb It’s Criminal.’
Never losing sight of his first love (music), Dogg continues to chase record-breaking stats in the entertainment genre – most recently landing the 12th top 10 hit of his career.
Hop inside to see how the arrival came as a career milestone for the legendary emcee.
‘Bad Decisions,’ the new BTS and Snoop-assisted single from producer extraordinaire Benny Blanco, landed at #10 on the refreshed Hot 100.
Billboard reports:
“’Bad Decisions’ roars in at No. 10, with 10.1 million streams, 3.1 million in radio reach and 66,000 sold (45,000 digital downloads; 16,000 sold on CD; and 5,000 sold on cassette) in its first week, following its Aug. 5 arrival.”
Its premiere came as quite the achievement for all parties involved, especially Snoop as it makes him the second rapper in history to nab a top 10 hit in each of the last four decades (20s, 10s, 00s, and, 90s). JAY-Z was the first emcee to boast the feat. What’s more, the top 10 opening of ‘Bad’ – Snoop’s first as a leader since 2012 – means Snoop has surpassed JAY and is now the rapper with the longest span between his first and last top 10 hit (Dec. 25, 1993-Aug. 20, 2022).
Among all acts, Mariah Carey and Beyoncé are the only other two performers to be attached to top 10 hits over each of the last four decades. While Bey first landed in the chart’s top 10 as part of Destiny’s Child in the 90’s, she’s nabbed 20 placements by her lonesome in the chart territory since beginning her solo career in 2002. At writing, she sits at #1 with her latest hit single ‘Break My Soul.’
Carey claims 28 top 10 hits to her credit, including the perennially resurgent “All I Want for Christmas” which made her the first act to have a Hot 100 #1 hit in each of the last four decades.
