Missouri Reps Vote To Completely Defund State’s Public Libraries
ACLU-MO filed the suit on behalf of the Missouri Association of School Librarians and the Missouri Library Association (MLA) in an effort to overturn a state law passed in 2022 that bans sexually explicit material from schools. Since it was first enacted in August, librarians and other educators have faced misdemeanor charges punishable by up to a year in jail or a $2,000 fine for giving students access to books the state has deemed sexually explicit. The Missouri law defined (PDF) explicit sexual material as images “showing human masturbation, deviate sexual intercourse,” “sexual intercourse, direct physical stimulation of genitals, sadomasochistic abuse,” or showing human genitals. The lawsuit claims that school districts have been pulling books from their shelves.
“The house budget committee’s choice to retaliate against two private, volunteer-led organizations by punishing the patrons of Missouri’s public libraries is abhorrent,” Tom Bastian, deputy director for communications for ACLU-MO said in a statement to Motherboard. Like in all ACLU cases, the organization is not charging the two Missouri library groups for services. Both library organizations are also run by volunteers — every state has an equivalent of these two organizations that serve public and school libraries. In other words, a politician either lied or didn’t have his facts straight, and now 160 library districts risk losing state aid in June. “State Aid helps libraries provide relevant collections, literacy based programming, and technology resources to their communities,” Otter Bowman, president of the MLA told Motherboard in a statement. “Our rural libraries rely the most heavily on this funding to serve their communities, and they will be crippled by this drastic budget cut.”

Watch incredible moment Chelsea star Wesley Fofana completely takes out steward in Leeds clash
WESLEY FOFANA netted the winner as Chelsea ended a six game winless run against Leeds.
And an eventful afternoon for the defender also saw him accidentally wipe out a steward at the side of the Stamford Bridge pitch.
The incident came with ten minutes left of the match, which Chelsea won 1-0.
Fofana, 22, found himself in a footrace to the ball with Leeds ace Wilfried Gnonto.
It was the Chelsea man who got there first, and a slight nudge from Gnonto sent him tumbling to the turf.
Fofana then slid along the surface and accidentally took out a steward who was standing at the side of the pitch.
The £70million summer signing hit the steward in the legs, causing them to lose their footing and crash to the ground.
Fofana had earlier headed the Blues in front from a Ben Chilwell corner.
And that was how it finished, as Graham Potter’s side held on to claim a valuable three points against relegation threatened Leeds.
Fofana’s goal was just the seventh time Chelsea have found the back of the net since November 6.

But despite the win, the Blues are still tenth in the Premier League table.
Potter and Co are 11 points off Tottenham in fourth, with a crunch Champions League meeting with Borussia Dortmund coming up on Tuesday.
Chelsea go into the match at Stamford Bridge 1-0 down from the first leg.

Forspoken writer’s original pitch was apparently completely different from the final game
One of Forspoken’s original writers has said that the final version of the game is completely different from what he originally pitched.
Gary Whitta, possibly now best known for co-writing Star Wars: Rogue One, also served as a writer on Forspoken, though in the game he’s just credited as being behind the original concept. The writer recently spoke with Alanah Pearce as part of her Video Game Writing 101 series, where he touched on Forspoken’s story, which he says was rebooted between what he pitched and what the game ended up being (thanks, GamesRadar).
Pearce noted that from what she understands, Whitta had never written a single line of dialogue, which the latter confirmed, though he hasn’t actually played the game so wasn’t entirely sure. “What happened was, Square [Enix] came to me like five, six years ago and said ‘we have this idea… would you be willing to help us build out the world and the mythology,'” Whitta explained. Square Enix apparently liked what he came up with, and subsequently asked him if he would run a writers room, which he did and got together a bunch of writers he admired.
