Rumoured Halo Infinite battle royale dev says upcoming project is “something big and new for the franchise”
There’s been a rumour for a while that Certain Affinity is working on a Halo Infinite battle royale, and the studio has recently promised that the project it is working on is “something big and new for the franchise.”
Back in August of 2020, the Halo Infinite store page made a mention of a battle royale mode, and later that year a rumour emerged that suggested the game would in fact be receiving such a mode sometime in 2021. That obviously never happened, but frequent Halo assist studio Certain Affinity is working on something to do with Halo Infinite, and there are plenty of rumours that that is where the battle royale mode is being developed. And now, Certain Affinity executive Paul Sams has somewhat teased the project (thanks, Eurogamer).
“The biggest thing we’re doing that’s public right now, for more than two years now we’ve been working on Halo Infinite doing something that – they’re very prescriptive about what we can say,” Sams told VentureBeat. “But we’re doing something unannounced, and we’re doing lead development on that unannounced thing, from conception and design.
Leaving Valorant ranked games early can hurt your MMR, says Riot dev
Leaving Valorant ranked games early can hurt your MMR chances, explains a Riot dev who notes that your competitive ranking in the FPS game can actually still increase on a loss. MMR (Matchmaking Rating) is the hidden rating used alongside the visible RR (Rank Rating) in Valorant to help determine what skill level you belong at in the multiplayer game’s competitive ranked modes.
Valorant senior competitive designer at Riot Jon ‘EvrMoar’ Walker has taken to Twitter with some useful information about how MMR works. Calculated separately from your Rank Rating, MMR doesn’t reset between Episodes, Valorant’s seasons, and it calculates values based on both your ‘Encounter MMR’ (how you perform against players on the enemy team) and ‘Win/Loss MMR’ (who you win and lose matches against).
The idea is that your hidden MMR helps Riot to determine where you should be each season. As such, if your current rank is higher than your MMR, you’re likely to lose more Rank Rating on a loss and gain less on a win, because the system believes you’re placed a little too high for your performance level. The reverse takes place if your current rank is lower than your MMR, in order to help give you a shove up the ladder.

Bob Marley Mobile Game Dev Explains Why There Is No Weed In The Game
Bob Marley’s World Tour is a mobile rhythm game that lets players perform Marley’s music and manage his band’s progression to stardom. The game is being developed by LBC Studios, who focus on making games about the rapidly expanding culture of legalized cannabis–however, their Marley game doesn’t have any mention of weed in it.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, studio founder Solon Bucholtz has explained why the game about Rastafarian icon Bob Marley is their first not to feature any kind of marijuana. Their previous games are Hempire, a weed-growing management sim, and Tasty Buds, a match three game that sees players creating new strains of cannabis.
It was their success with these games that led to a partnership with Marley Merchandising, the company that licences Bob Marley’s image, for the development of Bob Marley’s World Tour, but everyone involved decided that, in this case, it would be better to leave cannabis out of the picture.
EA is working with a surprising dev partner on an upcoming AAA EA Originals game
The next major release from EA Originals, the EA label typically responsible for smaller projects from indie teams, is one you may not have seen coming if you don’t tend to keep up with industry rumours.
EA is partnering with Omega Force, the Koei Tecmo studio responsible for the Warriors series – Samurai Warriors, Dynasty Warriors and others. The developer is working on a new AAA IP that’s set in a fantasy version of feudal Japan.
EA called the project, “the next great hunting game,” suggesting it’s a Monster Hunter-style action RPG, though the publisher didn’t reveal any details. The good news is that more information will be shared later this month, potentially at TGS, given the studios and publishers involved.
Will your enterprise app dev teams visit Apple’s Dynamic Island?
When you think about it, Apple’s newly introduced Dynamic Island feature is likely to become a critical interaction point between apps and users of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max phones that support it. It looks like a great opportunity for B2C and B2B app experiences that can build digital connection with end users.
What is Dynamic Island?
Dynamic Island turns Apple’s boring notch, behind which the FaceID camera sits, into an excitingly interactive area that lets users monitor important app activity (such as delivery service ETA, music playback, and sports scores) and take control of apps.
