A leaked video of the Meta Quest Pro hints at what’s next for VR headsets
Meta set October 11 as the date for its Meta Connect conference just last week, but today we may have gotten an early look at the virtual reality tech it plans to unveil there.
A Facebook gaming page posted a hurried unboxing video of what they claim is the Meta Quest Pro. It’s unclear how they acquired it, but it looks legit.
Here are a few takeaways from the video:
Updated controllers: Gone are the plastic rings housing infrared LEDs for tracking. Instead, it looks like each controller has now two cameras to enable tracking: one facing the user and one facing out and away, toward a light source. The textured thumb pad sensor on the control panel seems to be absent, replaced by a downward sloping plane that may be an ergonomic upgrade. A set of three lights (or sensors?) have been added above the grip button. Other than those changes, the design looks nearly identical to the Quest 2 controllers, and there doesn’t seem to have been any adjustments made to make them less slippery in your hand.

Chicer, sleeker goggles: The Meta Quest Pro facial interface likely uses Meta’s holocake technology, which means it’s significantly slimmer than the Quest 2. The Meta Quest Pro is expected to be used at work, and a slimmer, lighter design will make it much easier to wear for longer periods of time.

New charging set up: It’s hard to see in the video, but it looks like a black charging dock is nestled in the box. Images on the box appear to show a charging dock and a cord.

No gaskets: A light-blocking gasket is necessary for total immersion, but it looks like the Meta Quest Pro won’t come with one. We don’t see one in this video, and we didn’t see one last week in a photo Zuck dropped of himself wearing what looked like the Meta Quest Pro. That means you will almost certainly need to leave room in your budget to buy one from a third party.

All-in-all, the Meta Quest Pro looks like a promising upgrade in fit and comfort, but still lacks several features that would make it peerless. But what really matters is the tech on the inside, which we’re all but certain to learn more about on October 11.
Apple Watch Pro renders and leaked cases show off a larger screen and new button
As expected, the Apple leaks are coming in strong as we’re approaching Wednesday’s “Far Out” iPhone 14 event. Today, we’ve got our closest look yet at the Apple Watch Pro, thanks to renders from 91mobiles. Typically we’d treat most leaks from unknown “industry sources” with a healthy dose of salt, but according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the renders are “indeed it.” And for the most part, it’s everything we expected. There’s a bigger screen, as Gurman’s earlier reports have suggested, as well a minor evolution of the Apple Watch Series 7 design. (Sorry, flat edge fans.)
Take a close look and you’ll notice an extra button on the opposite side of the (ruggedized) Digital Crown and multitasking button. Both 91mobile and Gurman speculate that it could be programmable, allowing you to launch a specific app or workout without dealing with the touchscreen. Case leaks from Sonny Dickson and DuanRui (via The Verge and Weibo) also point to a larger screen and additional button.

The Apple Watch Pro will likely target extreme sports fanatics—the sort of folks who wouldn’t mind spending close to $1,000 for Garmin’s high-end smartwatches. While that may sound extravagant, don’t forget that there have always been high-end Apple Watch models not meant for mortal wallets. The current Hermes Series 7 collection ranges all the way up to an eye-watering $1,759. So with that context, maybe a $1,000 Apple Watch Pro doesn’t seem so crazy? (No, it’s still crazy.)
AirPods Pro 2 Charging Case With Three New Features Shown in Leaked Renders
O’Hara said he could not verify the accuracy of the renders, but they do line up with previous rumors about the next AirPods Pro charging case.
The new charging case is expected to gain Find My support, allowing users to track the location of the case in the Find My app in the event it is lost or misplaced, even when the AirPods Pro are not placed in the case. Earlier this year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the case will be able to emit a sound when lost, which would explain the addition of speaker holes.
The renders also show a single hole for what could be a microphone, although it is unclear what it would be used for. One possibility is that the microphone could be used for Apple’s accessibility feature Live Listen, which can help someone to hear a conversation in a noisy area or across a room. The case’s microphone could take in sound and send it to the AirPods Pro that someone is wearing, making the sound easier to hear.
Last, the renders show a cutout in the right side of the case that is likely intended for a lanyard attachment seen in a previous leak. This feature would make it easier to attach an AirPods Pro case to a keychain without the need for an extra accessory.
It’s not obvious from the CADs whether the case has a Lightning connector like the current version or a USB-C port, but rumors suggest the case will stick with Lightning this year and switch to USB-C along with the iPhone 15 next year. The case has also supported MagSafe wireless charging since receiving a minor revision in October 2021.
It’s also likely the new AirPods Pro charging case will have IPX4-rated water and sweat resistance like the charging case for the third-generation AirPods. Currently, only the AirPods Pro earbuds have water resistance and not the case.
While the second-generation AirPods Pro are expected to have longer battery life thanks to a more power efficient H2 chip and potentially support for Bluetooth 5.2’s low-power LE Audio standard, it’s not clear if the battery in the new charging case will be any larger. The current AirPods Pro case is equipped with a 519 mAh battery.
Apple is expected to announce the new AirPods Pro by the end of 2022, but it’s not clear exactly when they will be unveiled. Other features rumored for the new AirPods Pro include improved in-ear detection, fitness tracking capabilities, and more.

Leaked Sonos Sub Mini marketing photos show off its cylindrical shape
Sonos customers have been waiting for a cheaper subwoofer since the first signs of one popped up late last year, and now WinFuture.de is giving us a few pics for a better look at the device.
The Sub Mini’s design was first revealed by The Verge several months ago, and these marketing images closely resemble our original rendering. As seen in the pictures above has a large cutout that appears to more closely resemble the port in Sonos’ larger, $749 Sub, along with an overall height that’s closer to the Sonos One speakers.
The pictures don’t come with much in the way of details, specifications, or release date; however, as WinFuture points out, these marketing pics…
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Gameplay Has Reportedly Leaked
What looks to be new gameplay footage from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has leaked online ahead of a bigger reveal set for September during the Call of Duty Next event.
Footage posted on Twitter shows a gameplay sequence where the player hijacks a truck, vaults into the driver’s seat, and then proceeds to race down the road and fire at enemies driving by. The video is not good quality and doesn’t provide any context on what’s being shown. In fact, it’s not even confirmed that this is Modern Warfare II, though it is believed to be.
