Embattled R&B legend R. Kelly – already serving a 30-year sentence for sex trafficking and racketeering – may be facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life behind bars due to an ongoing trial for sex crimes against minors, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve a throne. At least, that’s what veteran singer Tevin Campbell is suggesting.
The ‘Can We Talk’ crooner talked with TMZ recently and gave his two cents on the ongoing debate about who the real King of R&B is – a debate that was incited when Usher took to press recently to announce he felt he deserved the title.

Ironically fresh from thrilling fans in Vegas with a duet of ‘Talk’ with Usher (as we reported here), the 45-year-old – whose career in the genre is over three decades long – waxed honest about his thoughts on who is R&B’s reigning monarch.
Though initially taking the more diplomatic route by saying ‘everyone is a king’ and paying tribute to the legends who paved the way (i.e. Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke, etc.), Campbell eventually explained his thoughts on who is currently owning the throne. His thoughts were particularly timely as Usher recently said no one could challenge him in a VERZUZ battle.
“You know there is R. Kelly,” Tevin relayed when discussing who is worthy to face off with Usher in a hit-for-hit showdown. “I’m not saying just anybody can compete, but R. Kelly has a lot of hits and he wrote all of them.”
