Bill Chalker lists various Aussie and other watery phenomena cases. He references Martin Shough and Wim van Utrecht’s Redemption of the Damned, Vol.2: Sea and Space Phenomena, published by Anomalist Books, as one worthwhile source of several such cases. Bill concludes with “The USO enigma is an enduring and potent part of the UFO/UAP phenomenon,” and we more and more agree. John Greenewald gives us the entire Report on Unidentified Aerial and Celestial Objects, Project 364, April 30, 1949 by Dr. J Allen Hynek. Hynek strives to provide/eliminate astronomical explanations for most of these early UFO reports, including some iconic ones. He lumps four cases together (#s 30, 32, 33, and 48) to explain how Venus was the “culprit” in the January 7, 1948, Thomas Mantell death. Some may be surprised to find “drones” already a possible explanation, as in #189’s “Since the object looked like a drone, perhaps it was one.” By the way, there’s a current sensation about a 1740s possible UFO report by a “Cromwell Mortimer” that “has just/recently come to light.” Micah Hanks, for example, covered this story for Mysterious Universe on November 24, 2019, as This Unusual Report From 1742 May Be the Earliest Scientific UFO Observation.
