Rich Reynolds’ commentaries on The State of Ufology are provocative and often fun. Here he notes the new interest among physicists for “The UFO Mystery” and their pet Grand Theories, and ponders what’s causing “This messiness.” The “great unwashed” mass appears here and also in The Calamitous or Paradisical Solution to What UFOs Are. Rich considers what a “disclosure” of some sort about UFO origins would do to most humans inhabiting the planet. Rich says the Ancient Astronaut/Alien answer to We Have Never Been Alone? “makes my insides curdle.” He also thinks archiving UFO reports is dumb. But the work David Marler, Jan Aldrich, Barry Greenwood, and others are doing in archiving and digitizing these old accounts has already resulted in new discoveries of some note and better-educated interest among those “unwashed” masses through the media. And the post Rich passes on From Jose Antonio Caravaca is a blast for historians and folklorists. But its argument about the origins of the name “Magonia” might discomfit those behind a certain prominent website, and could prompt Jacques Vallee to change the name of “his best known work” Passport to Magonia: From Folklore to Flying Saucers!
