We ufologists would like to think that, since 2017, we’re at a pivotal point in history. Marik von Rennenkampff has a story that just may raise those stakes. He employs the Cassandra myth and more recent, real-world examples to explain why the UFO phenomenon doesn’t get more traction in governmental policymaking. Along the way he touts former Project Blue Book head Capt. Edward Ruppelt’s The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects as “a must-read” due to its “noteworthy contemporary parallels.” Christopher Sharp suggests upcoming revelations could force a concerted governmental response in Exclusive: More UFO Hearings Are Coming As Whistleblowers Are Called Forward And Legacy Programs Are Verified By Congress. Here the “Pandora’s Box” tale comes into play, though this knowledge is called a “Silver Bullet” busting open the decades-long “cover-up.” With all this in mind, The Observer maintains that The Times Aren’t A-Changin’. Anomalist Editor Patrick Huyghe’s 2001 book Swamp Gas Times: My Two Decades on the UFO Beat is the subject here. It “had us double-checking the copyright page more than once, since many of the topics covered parallel the UFO situation as it stands today.” Examples are given, and Huyghe’s book also affords comparison with NASA’s recently-near-180-degree turn on UFOs. Hopefully thoughtful readers as well as historians should appreciate this article’s close: “What’s that old saying about those who don’t study history?” (WM)
