‘It’s Goin Down’ rapper Yung Joc can expect something to go down on his social media handles today after ruffling the feathers of #KillerBees, the beloved fan group of Lil Kim.
Over a month after DJ Vlad, host of the popular Web interview series VLADTV, sent Nicki Minaj fans into a frenzy of fury for saying the main difference between the ‘Super Freaky Girl’ star and Kim is that the latter has more “straight male fans,” Joc visited the platform to double down on the point.
While there, he also added his two cents on what separates the divas, suggesting that it’s the men behind them that have truly made the biggest impact on their respective success narratives.
While the rapper-turned-reality star & radio personality agreed with VLAD’s assessment about Minaj and Kim’s respective straight male fan bases, he believes what pushes Nicki ahead of her ‘Hardcore’ predecessor are the men in her corner: Drake and Lil Wayne.
“It’s like having allies,” Joc began. “The more stronger your allies are, the more powerful you are as a united fronts. If you got weak allies, you ain’t sh*t. Nobody’s scared of you.”
Throughout the interview clip Joc (born Jasiel Amon Robinson) seemed to be suggesting that the comparison between Kim and Minaj isn’t the fairest because of the support the latter can boast.
“…while Nicki MInaj may come off more powerful, at the time when Lil Kim was doing what she was doing there’s a difference,” he said before later relaying, “[Nicki] started with Gucci [Mane], Lil Wayne, Drake, Baby…she got some real hitters behind her, but LIl Kim doesn’t have Diddy behind her the same no more. I’m pretty sure there’s still a relationship and fondness there, but is they cliqued up everyday on a regular?”
Going on to say Kim is lacking “social influence” as a result of the absence of late rapper Notorious B.I.G. in her corner as well, Robinson respects her legendary status but believes she pales in popularity in comparison to Nicki “in today’s climate” due to the lack of a “machine” behind her.
“…she does not have the same popularity that Nicki Minaj has nor does she have the same money or resources that Nicki Minaj has. Nicki MInaj also has a hell of a PR system behind her. She’s got her own money, she’s got a label behind her, she’s got labels behind her,” he said.
The inference that Nicki’s success is due in great part to the male figures who have supported her definitely rubbed her beloved fans, affectionately called #Barbz, the wrong way and even caused some of them to take to Twitter to defend her.
