Nicki Minaj may be Rap’s reigning Queen, but she’s never been afraid to bow down to salute the Rap Royals who paved the way for her.
Her latest trek down that track came just moments after Monday’s announcement (August 8) she will be the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 MTV VMAs later this month.
Among the many sending their congratulations over the news was Missy Elliott, who made history in 2019 when she became the first female rapper to nab the honor.
Look inside to see how Minaj responded to the shout out from Miss.
After Missy took to Twitter Monday (August 8) to toast to Minaj’s forthcoming achievement, the ‘Super Bass’ star responded with quite the tribute.
“Mumbling & cackling,” she started. “Nah OMG thank you Missy. You kicked down this door. Nothing but love and respect for your iconic artistry.”
Fans of the award-winning rapstresses know they’re no stranger to showing love to each other. Back in 2019, Nicki gave Missy a shout out in celebration of the release of her long-awaited EP ‘Iconolgy.’
The latest lovefest comes just weeks before the August 28 airing of the VMAs where Nick will take the stage to crank out her greatest hits and accept the Vanguard Award.
Joining an exclusive club of recipients, Minaj comes as the fifth Black woman to receive the trophy since it was first handed out in 1984. Only Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Missy knew the honor before her.
