In honor of the 100th birthday of Norman Lear, one of television history’s most important writers and producers, ABC announced a star-studded special featuring some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
Via the career-spanning TV event titled ‘Norman Lear: 100 Years of Music and Laughter,’ the network assembled the likes of Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney, Laverne Cox, Tom Hanks, Rita Moreno, Ms. Pat, Jay Pharoah, Jimmy Kimmel, Amy Poehler, Octavia Spencer, and more to offer skits and speeches to toast to the life of the man responsible for some of television’s most groundbreaking efforts including ‘All in the Family,’ ‘Maude,’ and ‘The Jeffersons.’
Homage to his hand in creating the latter will come courtesy of a Destiny’s Child reunion of sorts. Look inside to get a taste of what members of the iconic girl group are serving for Norman.
As seen in the teaser above (at the 1:14 mark), Rowland and Williams – sans Beyoncé – soared with a fiery rendition of ‘The Jeffersons’ theme song ‘Movin On Up.’
The performance comes as an addition to the handful of instances the divas have been seen performing together since Destiny’s Child’s unexpected disbandment in 2006 (see: 2013 Super Bowl, 2018 Coachella, etc.).
One of the night’s most highly anticipated musical showings, their take on the classic TV tune leads a roster that will also include live tribute numbers from Anthony Anderson, Kristen Bell, Ledisi, Tracee Ellis Ross, and more.
The Norman Lear birthday special airs Thursday, September 22, at 9 PM EST on ABC. It streams exclusively on Hulu starting September 23.
