Norman, can you handle this?
Only a star of the magnitude of the legendary Norman Lear, one of television history’s most important writers and producers, can boast reassembling Destiny’s Child.
To celebrate his 100th birthday, the iconic girl group (sans leader Beyonce) lent a rocking tribute by performing ‘Moving On Up’ – the unforgettable theme song to his groundbreaking 70’s sitcom ‘The Jeffersons.’
After sending faithful DC3 fans into a frenzy via a preview, the ABC TV event honoring Lear’s centennial – ‘Norman Lear: 100 Years of Music and Laughter’ – aired Thursday night (September 22) and gave viewers a chance to see Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams strut their stuff like only they can.

One of the rare instances the divas have been seen performing together since Destiny’s Child’s unexpected disbandment in 2006 (see: 2013 Super Bowl, 2015 Stellar Awards, 2018 Coachella, etc.), Rowland and Williams’ take on the classic TV tune led a performance roster of the night that also included live musical numbers from Anthony Anderson, Kristen Bell, Ledisi, Tracee Ellis Ross, and more.
Beyond the musical performances, Tom Hanks, Rita Moreno, Ms. Pat, Jay Pharoah, Jimmy Kimmel, Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney, Laverne Cox, Amy Poehler, Octavia Spencer, and more were on hand to offer skits and speeches in homage of Norman.
If you missed the birthday special when it aired Thursday, September 22 on ABC, it’s now streaming exclusively on Hulu.
