The talk of the week was undoubtedly the social media smackdown between Latto and her “former idol” Nicki Minaj!
What started as a discussion around “industry politics” and the recently kicked off GRAMMY voting process that saw Minaj’s #1 hit, ‘Super Freaky Girl,’ booted from Rap categories to Pop turned into a virtual brawl between the two rappers with major disses flying both ways (as we reported extensively).
As their respective fan groups continue to duke it out on the Web, some industry figures – like CHIKA and now Amber Rose – are throwing their two cents in on the matter.
While CHIKA took aim at Minaj and her “annoying” fans (affectionately called Barbz), Rose is taking more of a Switzerland route by encouraging peace between the dueling divas. Look inside to see what the model-actress had to say.
Taking to Instagram Friday (October 14), Rose – as captured by our friends at 9MagTV in the video above – shared a series of IG story clips weighing in on the Latto and Nicki beef.
Branding herself an “unproblematic queen” and “feminist,” Amber was sure to clarify that she wasn’t taking sides on the matter as she could point out where both femcees were wrong.
“…when you call a mixed person like a Karen, it’s really like just dismissing their blackness, and I feel like that happens often, and I don’t feel like that’s ok,” the biracial model-actress stated in reference to Minaj calling Latto an “entitled Karen” (as we first reported here).
Later in the post she admonished ageism, a practice the ‘Big Energy’ rapper perpetuated when she referred to Nicki as “old” and a “bully.”
“I also feel like as women like we call each other old at like a very young age as if we’re supposed to just stop our lives at a certain age and, like you know, just kind of give up on everything and not continue to do what we love which I also think is really f***ed up,” said Rose, 38, who is a year younger than the Harajuku Barbie.
Using examples of rappers over the age of 40 who continue to enjoy thriving careers (i.e. Eminem, Dr. Dre, JAY-Z, and her ex Kanye West), Amber argues their ages are rarely factored into conversations about their success narratives – unlike their female counterparts.
“It’s very problematic that you know that society just expects us [women] to just kind of roll over and die,” she shared before eventually relaying, “I think that’s whack.”
All-in-all, the model-actress concluded by sharing all can be remedied if we would just give peace a chance.
“Let’s just continue to flourish and just really to support each other. And support Black businesses. And just like…let’s just be kind,” she stated. “I really want us to be kind and be positive.”
