Let’s call it Sea Serpent Thursday. So we’re starting with Cassie, the local leviathan in Maine’s Casco Bay. She may be a sea snake, or she may be a giant squid, or she may even be a long running case of pareidolia. Loren Coleman has suggested Cassie remains hidden because she has become accustomed to the bay’s shipping lanes and stays the heck away. So she isn’t just big, she’s smart. Now across the pond, Birdwatcher Photographs Peculiar ‘Mystery Creature’ Lurking in Scottish Loch. Evidently the peace of the ornithologist’s day was disturbed (and in our opinion, his day made infinitely better) by a ruckus out on the water of Loch Long. Fortunately, with camera already in hand, he was able to snap some photos of something that either had a hairy head and a pair of antennae, or was covered in weeds from the loch. We’re intrigued, if only because it’s a photo of something more than a wake. (CM)
